Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. I had hoped to do updates tonight, but after a busy and successful day in Denver, I am wiped. I will do updates tomorrow on the road as we head back to Nebraska. We hope to make it to Omaha before the snow storm descends upon us.
I did want to thank James for inviting Ann and I to see his project (pictures tomorrow). I also wanted to thank Guy for his invitation to tour the Pikes Peak International Raceway, which I will have to delay until my next visit to Colorado Springs.
Here are a couple pics from Casa Bonita, which is a fun tourist trap in Denver. We had a great time. The first pic is Ann and I and the second one is me doing the Mamba (strangely, I was the only adult doing the Mamba …). We have pics of the cliff divers, but they came out a bit too dark.

I made my first ascent of Pike’s Peak today. Accompanied by Ann and her nephew Michaes, we braved the beautiful blue skies and perfect temperatures to wind our way to the 14,110 foot summit. From Colorado Springs it took about an hour to reach the peak. Three things surprised me about the ascent. 1) The toll road cost $39 to drive (car plus 3 passengers); 2) Santa’s workshop sits at the base of Pike’s Peak (who knew)?; 3) The concessionaire at the top of the peak is famous for its donuts (which were pretty good).

(01/02/2011) “1962 FC170 Jeep this is a custom made snow plow. really heavy duty. Straight blade no angle, winch up and down. Has a 318 dodge engine for power. 4 speed trans and single stick transfer case. Chains for all 4 wheels locking hubs. This thing can move a mountain of snow.”

Here’s a nicely updated rig.
“1963 Willys Overland Pickup (Jeep) with 1982 Chevy drive train; 305 cubic inch Chevy engine; 4 speed standard transmission; 4-wheel drive with locking front hubs; driving lights; interior lights; am/fm cassette. This vehicle has been in storage since 2002 in an enclosed garage. New brakes, new tires and rims and new am/fm cassette were all installed in 2002. We just recently installed a new battery and fuel filter. She runs great. We started her up and drove her to a nearby gas station for a fill-up. Lots of fun to drive and gets lots of attention. Will need aircare. Lynn Valley North Vancouver location. $9,000.00.”
This might be a good price.
