1946 CJ-2A Delray Beach, Fl $11,000

• CATEGORIES: CJ-2A • TAGS: , This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

UPDATE:  Price dropped to $11,000

(03/21/2011) This is a pretty rig.  It’s mostly stock, though there are a few changes.  One of them is that the windshield arms have been swapped in a clean manner for differently shaped arms.  I thought the idea to put the lights under the rear was a creative solution to keep from drilling lights into the body; however, if they will take a pretty good pounding in dirty or gravel from flying rocks or dirt or water.

“This 1946 Willys CJ2A was completely restored and runs like a Swiss watch!   Less than 1,000 miles of recently rebuilt flathead 4 cylinder engine.  Carb rebuilt.  All seals replaced, no leaks.  4×4, hubs, transfer case and transmission all in top-notch condition.  New paint job — a real head-turner!  New military tires.  It breaks my heart to part with this Jeep, but I’m having to relocate for work and can’t take it with me.  My loss is your gain!  Happy to answer any questions you have.  Please call 561-450-7524 or email mediarazzi@gmail.com.”

Who Needs a Road? A 1960s Trip around the World

• CATEGORIES: Books, International This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

Harold Stephen loves old jeeps.  He loved them so much he spent time exploring the world in both a CJ-5 and a Landcruiser during the 1960s.  In 1965-6 Harold Stephens, along with Al Podell, picture editor of Argosy magazine, formed the Trans World Record Expedition and set the world’s record for the longest non-repetitive miles motor trip around the world (42,500 miles). They captured their trip in their co-authored book, Who Needs a Road. I just bought a copy and you can find a paperback copy for sale here.

Prior to their joint trip, Harold purchased a CJ-5 and shipped it with a small trailer to Europe.  He writes, “Three months in Europe, and no accommodations to worry about. I camped in the shadows of medieval chateaus and age-old monasteries. When I could find none of these, I camped in farmers’ cow pastures. Many times I awoke to discover cows nibble at my shoes outside my door. If farmers came, they were usually friendly, providing I had closed the gate behind me, and often invited me to the farmhouse for coffee and homemade bread.”  You can read more about his CJ-5 European adventure here, including a two month stay in a Russian Jail.

He eventually made his way back to Spain, parked his Jeep and returned to the US. He sold his story to Argosy Magazine and then his editor asked him if he would be interested in an around the world tour in a Toyota Land Cruiser (I tired to find the argosy article, but was unsuccessful).  He said yes, so he and a few others went pack to Spain, picked up a Landcruiser, snagged his jeep, and then started off on their journey.

This is Harold with his CJ-5:

Here’s a good pic of the Landcruiser

70 Years of Jeep at the Walter P. Chrysler Museum

• CATEGORIES: Event This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

From April 19th through Dec 30 the Walter P. Chrysler Museum at One Chrysler Drive, Auburn Hills, MI, will be holding a special “70 years of Jeep” exhibit, which includes a special display of a Willys MA.  Personally, it is slightly frustrating that the officials holding these ‘jeep’ anniversaries don’t recognize this as the 71st year (1940 was the actual delivery date of the first jeeps) rather than the 70th year, but it seems since they are sponsoring the events, they are framing history in their own way.

• CATEGORIES: CJ5 This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

UPDATE:  Price dropped to $650.

(04/26/2011) There’s definitely some value here.  It runs.

“This runs great. Also moves & stops but not road worthy. This has brand new rear springs that need to be installed. I do not have a reg. for it. This is probably better as a donor or lot truck .The plow blade needs repair or you can replace it. I plowed 2 big driveways all winter with out a problem. Junkers no thank-you. 657-3312”
