Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. It is missing a few parts, such as the front parking lights and hood latches.

“1946 Jeep CJ2A. Rare with original 3 on the column. Runs very good. Drive train in excellent condition. 4 wheel drive and rear P.T.O. Body in good condition. Driven often. Original 4 cylinder flat head engine.”

This looks pretty good.
“I am selling my 1954 Willy’s M170 USMC medic jeep. There were less than 4000 of the Jeeps ever made and less than a couple hundred thought to still be in existence. This Jeep is partially restored and needs to be finished. Email me with any questions and I will answer right away.”
This one cracked me up. The seller notes it is both fully restored AND it needs brake work. So, I’d say this is sort of restored.

The red body could be a DJ body, given the DJ-like speedometer, rather than a CJ-2A body. It might explain its good condition.
“This auction is for two Jeep Willys flat fender jeeps with many many extra parts. The red has a three speen with the overdrive unit and drive shafts and a late model tilt steering column. It turns very easy. The body is not too bad on this one and the black inteior is very nice. The green one is complete with the pto set up. The motor turns over and the last owner says it ran great when parked. There are many many extra parts included. I will provide bill of sales. No title. Unsure of years.”

This was the seller’s father’s project who recently passed away.
“This Jeep is a 1948 Willys jeep, painted camo. It has a flathead four cylinder engine. This belonged to my dad who bought it planning to restore it, but he recently passed away. We are selling off some of his things. There is no top, just what you see in the picture. I think it ran when he parked it where it sits a couple of years ago. If you are looking for a four wheel drive project or parts for one here is a buy for you. We do not have a title for it. ”

The seller provides some good details.
“1957 NARROW TRACK. I BELIEVE THIS IS THE FIRST YEAR. HERE IS THE STORY—I BOUGHT THIS JEEP FOR PARTS BECAUSE I AM RESTORING TWO OTHER FC150’S. THE GUY TOLD ME IT RAN GOOD, IT WAS HIS DECEASED FATHERS. IT WAS SITTING OUTSIDE FOR 7 YEARS WHEN I LOOKED AT IT. I PUT SOME GAS IN IT AND A FRESH BATTERY AND IT FIRED RIGHT UP. WHEN I TIRED TO DRIVE IT ON THE TRAILER IT JUST KEPT LOCKING UP IN THE FRONT. HE SAID HE DID NOT KNOW WHY. WELL I BROUGHT IT HOME AND STARTED TO MESS AROUND WITH IT . I DID NOT HAVE THE HEART TO PART IT OUT BECAUSE THE MOTOR RUNS SO GOOD. NO SMOKE EITHER. HE DID TELL ME THE ENGINE WAS COMPLETELY OVERHAULED AT SOME POINT IN ITS LIFE.
I TORE THE FRONT END APART AND FOUND THE RIGHT AXLE , RING & PINION, CARRIER ALL BROKEN. DON’T ASK ME WHY, BUT I REPAIRED IT ALL WITH N.O.S. PARTS. I PUT SOME NEW SEALS IN , REPLACED ALL THE BRAKE SHOES, LININGS, WHEEL CYLINDERS, ETC.—ALL GREASE & OIL LEVELS DRAINED AND RE-FILLED. I ALOS GOT NEW RUBBER BRAKE HOSES FRONT AND REAR. PLUS NEW STEEL LINES FRONT AND REAR & A RE-BUILT MASTER CYLINDER. WELL IT RUNS AND STOPS WELL…..”
UPDATE: Bill correctly notes that this is the same DJ-3A as pictured a few months ago, except that it has been painted and the price raised $100.
No motor. The body sure looks good. I don’t know what it takes to get this back over the border.
“Motorless Jeep style Mexican army vehicle. Papers are perfectly legal within Mexico borders. It used to work perfectly fine until its former owner took the engine to use it into another similar vehicle. It is a perfect project if you have the time, you’ll love to spend time with this relic. (12/08/2010) It’s got the camper option.
“v8-5 speed 4wd PTO with camper and cargo shell from the dealer. The mileage is unknown. Has tool box steps. Needs restoring will be a very rare jeep. i have a NC title with this or register without by age. In the movie “Hatari” John Wayne used one of these to haul a giraffe. Reserve is a modest 2500.00. Engine is there but not sure if it will run. 9 foot bed and 200% better visibility and the highest payload were the claims to fames on this vehicle.”
