Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. Colin provided a couple updates. He’s got a new top for his Surrey and his son, Lee, got their CJ-2A project running for the first time.
Colin writes, “I had a new top put on the Surrey. Here are a couple of photos of it. I also attached a couple of photos of our project 1952 CJ3A that is nearing completion. It has a CJ2A windshield and is now 12V with upgraded larger 11″ brakes.It still has the L-134 4 banger, but also sports an electric winch, custom built rollbar and custom bikini top. These were taken the first time we fired it up..it ran like a Swiss watch!”

UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $1200 without the V8
(11/13/2010) That top looks like an old Sears & Roebuck Aluminum top, rather than a custom top.
“This is a old military jeep that someone has put an old ford flathead V8 in.Has some rust issues and a funkey homemade top.No title but the same guy has owned it since the beginning of time,comes with bill of sale.”

(11/10/2010) For $3000, given all the upgrades, this appears to be a good price.

Fenders, hood, grille, and roll bar currently removed but included in sale
Started as classic rebuild project but ran out of time and money.
Last driven approximately 2 years ago. Garage kept since 2006.

I wasn’t certain of the year when I registered it with MVD. They guy I bought it from only had a Canadian title with no information. I guessed it was a 1945. I did a little more research and after talking to a few guys from g503.com, we determined it to be a 1943. Instead of dealing with MVD again, I just left it as is.”

I’m not sure this will be an ‘easy’ restoration, but this does appear solid.
“THIS IS AS RARE A FIND AS YOU CAN GET. WILLYS JEEP FORWARD CONTROLS PICKUPS WERE A PART OF AUTO HISTORY. THEY MADE GREAT SNOW PLOWING MACHINES AND WOULD GO ANYWHERE YOU WANTED TO GO WITH THE FRONT WHEEL DRIVE. A LADY FARMER USED IT TO GET AROUND HER FARM IN HILLY AREA OF WISCONSIN AND ONLY QUIT DRIVING WHEN THE BRAKES QUIT WORKING. ENGINE RUNS GREAT AND IT ALL WORKS. THE BODY IS NOT ALL RUSTED OUT, YOU CAN SEE ONE CUT IN THE LEFT REAR FENDER WHERE SOME RUST MADE IT WEAK. OTHER THAN THAT IT HAS SOME LIGHT SURFACE RUST BUT OVERALL IT WILL BE AN EASY RESTORATION PROJECT FOR SOME LUCKYU WINNER. OR JUST USE AS IS. THE PHOTO’S SHOW THE DOOR TOPPS ARE OFF BECAUSE I AM GETTING NEW GLASS MADE FOR IT. ALSO WE HAVE LOTS OF SNOW SO TAKING PHOTO’S IS HARD RIGHT NOW.”
