Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. This is an article Bruce found in the Charleston Daily Mail from Dec 22, 1941. Note that the reporter calls this vehicle both a Jeep and a Bantam Buggy, suggesting that readers would be familiar with both terms. In fact, the US was only in the ware a couple weeks by the time this article aired.

Jean-Sebastien forwarded a couple links for our Canadian Readers to enjoy. I particularly love the trailer on this, though that Jeepster is gorgeous, too.
“I am selling this 1949 Willys Overland Jeepster Convertible . It has a rebuilt 1964 Buick V6 and an Automatic Transmission. I have 2 sets of tires. True spoke western rims, and a matching trailer. Motor has approx. 5000 miles. I have had it in a few parades. Draws alot of attention if thats what your looking for. Runs and drives really smooth. Power steering, power brakes, have been added to this jeep. The rear end is a ford 9 inch. No oil leaks, or burning. It has a new radiator. I have removed the pin stripping in the pictures. No rust of any kind. No body filler of any kind. This car is solid , solid solid. You will not be disappointed is this Jeep. I will assist in delivery of this jeep in any way I can. I am located in Windsor Ontario just across from Detroit Michigan. This Jeepster is titled a 1949 and some may say that it is a 1950. The vin shows that it is a 49 but with all the dash and front end of a 50. As far as I can tell the car was titled in the 2nd half of that year, Built in Ohio in 49 and exported to Canada the same year. In the US it would of been titled a 1950. Here’s another one courtesy of Jean-Sebastien. Bids have reached $9100. No offense to the seller, but I don’t quite understand why someone would modify a ’47 into a M-38 at such a detailed level as this has been done? But, hell, I’ve done plenty of things that didn’t make any sense!
“This is a Collectors 1947 Willys Jeep CJ2A modified to m38 with a military green paint job that is a year old. The seats were done year ago in green canvas. Jeep has a new go devil four cylinder motor that is green to match paint and was installed about year ago. Jeep runs great and has been garaged every winter. It comes with the one year old green canvas top. New unidirectional 7.00-16 Tires and green rims, Paint and Interior are in Great Condition. Everything has been replaced and redone from Brakes, Paint, Interior, Exhaust. The 4×4 works great with the 3 speed T90 transmission. I can provide more pictures on request.”

I wonder if the engine that needs rebuilding is good enough for another 10k miles or so.

There appears to be plenty of parts, but I can’t tell if they are all there. Note this does have stock reversed front springs.
“Picked this Willys up in Vegas last year. It has clear Nv title as a 1959, after some research it turns out to be a 1955, easy fix. Went to Willys Overland web site with vin and figured it out. I believe everything is here. I have a small shed with loads of parts that go with the CJ, carb, dist, seats, 2 windshield frames 1 with glass, gauges, 2 stearing columns, soft top, soft doors, grill with lights & turn signals, floor panels, skid plate, trailer hitch, bolts & screws and CJ builders book. It has a 350 GM crate motor mounted, with trany, transfer case, missing front drive shaft. Drive shaft should be aval. from Border parts in Spring Valley. Motor I was told has 15,000 miles on it, I have not had it running, turns by hand”
