Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. This is the late Bruce Agan’s former surrey that is being sold by his wife. It’s about as accurate a surrey as you’ll find. I’ve seen less accurate surrey’s sell for much more. See the full story on this Surrey here.

I was in the bidding for a short time on this, but it quickly reached more than I was willing to pay. It was at $12.50 when I dropped out.
Ted shared this unusual blend of a Surrey and a Tux Park. It sure looks nice. The seller doesn’t mention that the Surrey upgrades are incorrect for this model, but the seller is correct that if you want something unique to bring to a jeep event, this qualifies.

“1965 Jeep CJ-5A Tuxedo Park Mark IV – An “upscale” Jeep was named after the upscale Tuxedo Park in New York, which was the birthplace of the tuxedo. Elvis drove a similar Jeep in the 1965 movie “Tickle Me” which also starred Julie Adams. Tuxedo Park Jeeps were also driven in President Lyndon Johnson’s inaugural parade in January, 1965.
This special edition Jeep came standard with chrome bumpers, wheel covers, column shift, fold-down rear license plate, fold-down windshield, and a little more highway-friendly rear gear. Standard running gear is a 4-cylinder engine and 3-Speed manual transmission. Optional equipment on this one includes the surrey interior & top, 4-Wheel-drive, and “full” passenger seat. It has been retrofitted with seat belts for safety. Just like Elvis’ Tuxedo Park, this one is finished in Marlin Blue. Continue reading

Maury shared this 1975 Brochure from VAM, a company that produced jeeps, among other products, in Mexico. The photos show the short nose CJ-5, some of which had inline 6 (199 AMC) starting in 1966. One of the pics includes a Surrey DJ-5.
Colin spotted this Surrey-fied MB at Barrett Jackson yesterday. He also saw the “Tender” that was posted last month there.
Keith shared this Surrey Tribute CJ-2A. The seller incorrectly notes that the DJ-3A was originally used as a postal truck. Instead, they were built as cheap and economic delivery vehicles.

“Here is a Running 1961 Willys DJ3A. This is a Numbers Matching unit which only 1542 were made. Has Firewall Tag which matches Frame Number, and the Original 134 Flathead Engine it was built with. Painted Military over very poor body work by an old soldier who wanted parade use. New tires on very scarce original wheels, It’s ready to go while you make it better.
Included is an ORIGINAL Willys Pink SURREY body, like those in the Elvis beach movies. Only about 1100 ever made. Fix the Surrey body and mount it on the ’61 DJ3A chassis and you have a very special Matching Numbers Surrey Jeep. Two DJ3A units are in this deal. I found ’em, you decide where you go from here. Health issues prevents me from doing this project. Delivery and financing are available”
