Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. “This Jeep is the best of both worlds. We have enjoyed running in the dunes all weekend, letting the kids drive it all over. Then turn the bottle on and run 4.70’s at the sand drags. The Jeep has ran as fast as 4.68 at 69 mph. The drive train is a mild small block 400 which runs on pump gas, with a Mikes 400 trans w/brake and a 9″ Ford rearend with a spool. The nitrous set up is NOS which is right now set a about 150 hp. The nitrous has safety fuel pressure shut off to protect against damaged do to loss of fuel pressure. The electronics are MSD 6AL box, MSD Pro Billet distributor, MSD Pro blaster coil and a MSD 2 step box. The fuel system is a Holley Fuel pump with adjustable fuel pressure regulator and Holley carburetor. The Jeep has been remarkably reliable and consistent.”

“1948 willys sand jeep, small block chevy with 2sp powerglide with transbrake dana 60rear end 7.17 gears coil over suspension and 4 link . Street legal. Turn-key dunes all day rides nice revs high never gets hot.”
Damian wrote to tell me that a favorite drag jeep of mine, Rapid Transit, is racing under a new owner and a new power train. It looks like it uses a Bobcat hood and (likely) body.
He writes, “believe it or not this jeep is still around in the cleves, ohio area and races regularly, but it is now a center seater 2wd and has a small block chevy, i race with the current owner and also do photography.”

(10/19/2009) Fred hopes to sell his great looking Drag Jeep.
“Jeep Willys 1946. This Jeep was originally a military jeep. It was built and used as a sand drag jeep in the 70’s. In the mid 90’s it was completely disassembled to the frame and rebuilt keeping it as a sand drag jeep and to show. Differentials were all rebuilt, all new suspension , lenco 2 speed with air shift. motor is a small block chev, built with all new parts, steel crank, aluminum rods and heads, B & M blower, all hi-tech performance equipment. Over 15,000.00 invested in engine. Looks as good as it runs. Lots of chrome and gold anodizing. Fiberglass body, roll cage, centerline wheels, paddle tires. Custom built and very beautiful machine. It is in excellent condition. Includes custom made dust free car cover. Fun to show off .”

“1947 2A , Nice tub, unaltered, Very little rust, 3A windshield frame, nice fenders,grille,hood and tailgate, has title and vintage tags, No stock frame or running gear, but have two Postal Jeep Frames with receipts from wrecking yard. Was going to build another 2wd Gasser but don’t need two. Will try to post pictures later.”======================
