Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. I ran across this today at the Jeep Forum. Posted last year, someone was trying to identify it. This is the closest thing I have seen to a Wally Cohn Jeep.

It’s rough and rusted, but unusual. Note the extended back. Hopefully, the right person will buy and carefully restore this one.

Brett, who’s stealthily become head of the Utah’s ewillys correspondent (so stealthily, that even he doesn’t know it), found this gem … well … someone’s momma loves it.
“THIS WAS MY SONS PROJECT, WHO HAS GONE TO COLLAGE AND DOES NOT HAVE TIME TO FINISH IT. SO I AM GOING TO SELL IT. THE BEAST IS TITLED AS A 1953 JEEP SPECIAL! WE CALL IT THE BEAST YOU DECIDE! I DONT KNOW A LOT ABOUT IT BUT WHAT I DO KNOW I WILL TELL YOU. IT HAS A HOME MADE ALUMINUM BODY, ITS BIG… THE TOP OF THE HOOD IS 5′ TALL AND THE FENDERS ARE AT 51″! YES IT HAS 20’S UNDER IT, THE WHEELS ARE 9:00X20 5 LUG BY 1 1/8″ NUTS 40″ TALL AND CAN BE DUALED OUT! IT HAS SEVERAL NEW PART (FUEL PUMP, MASTER AND SLAVE CYLINDER, STARTER, LED LIGHTS, ETC)THE BEAST HAS A SMALL BLOCK CHEV IN IT THAT STARTS RIGHT UP ON WARM DAYS… STILL NEEDS A BATTERY… OVER ALL IT IS ABOUT 95% DONE AND WILL BE STREET LEGAL TOO!SOME OF THE OTHER ITMES ARE……”
These wooden Jeeps and Broncos were built by a craftsman named Jack who posted these photos to a website called Cherry Bronco.com (site was live in 2010, but has been down for years). He made wooden vehicles and furniture as a hobby in his spare time.
In the case of the 1977 Cherry Ford Bronco below, as you can see in the before and after pics, the body was pretty trashed and in need of something new. The pieces are all 7/8″ to 1″ pieces glued and screwed together. The bumpers and trim are done in Oak and Ash. A single coat of linseed Oil and three coats of Marine Varnish protect the finish and the owners clean it with furniture polish. Surprisingly, the new wooden body is actually 300lbs lighter than the original metal.

“my father built this jeep in the 70s it started out as a 67 wagoneer shortened the frame by 21 inches put a 351 clevland in it frome a 70 torino with a ten bolt top loader 4spd the motor is hopped up cam/carb/the moudual went out in the electronic dist so i put the points dist back in and it is running but needs timed”
