I was searching to see if anyone posted videos from the PNW4WDA 2009 Convention, but haven’t seen any yet.  I did find this nicely organized collection of racing images from 2008 that I hadn’t seen.  So, I thought I’d share them.  Note the audio has been disabled.  I have to wonder exactly how they track down audio like that given the millions of videos uploaded vs. the relatively low number of hits on this video.

Here’s some great old photographs from the 1970s.  They document some of the events attended by the Good Time Four Wheelers.  The image below was from the 3rd Annual Green River Valley Jeepers in 1976.  I attended one of their playdays in 1981 (I think).  It was located between Black Diamond and Enumclaw;  I wouldn’t be surprised if the area is full of homes now.

I’m suprised that as late as ’76 they weren’t requiring cages to race.  It wouldn’t be too long before they were required.  View all the pics (lots of desert dogs) at the pnw4wda forum.

I like the color mix as well as the overall construction.  Front shackles are reversed and it appears the rear springs are outboarded.

race_jeep_centraliaThis is a very good price on a race jeep that looks ready to go.  Get ready for summer!  I think this has reversed springs in the front.  I can’t tell if the back springs are outboarded or not.  I’m gonna guess the body is a fiberglass one piece bobcat body, judging by the thickness of the rim around the back side of the body that either tilts up or you lift off.  The desert dogs look in very good shape as do the rims. The paint job is unique as well.

racejeep_tacomadome2008This weekend, Friday January 16 & Saturday January 17th, 2009, members of  the PNW4WDA will be holding barrel races as part of a Monster Truck show at the Tacoma Dome in Tacoma Washington.   As you can see from the 2009 schedule, most of the races throughout the year tend to be in fairly remote locations, making them pretty private; This race provides a unique opportunity for the general public to see these unusual jeeps.  To the right is a link to a myspace video shot last year by a spouse of the racer  (I assumed it was from a spouse considering the ‘dumb ass’ comment heard in the accompanying audio).

Here’s a link to a TON of pictures from 2008 Tacoma Dome races on the Moonshiners’ Jeep Club website (though lots of dark and blurry ones too 🙂 ).

I’m not sure if this is a PNW legal racer or not.  It may just be a sand/mud buggy.  I can’t tell for sure, but I suspect the body is fiberglass, probably a bobcat body, as the rim around the back looks wider than a standard body.  I am wondering why they dont’ have a front bumper on the thing. There about $800 is tires alone, if in decent shape.

UPDATE:  Since I was heading to Seattle, I decided to stop by and check out this old racer (Also, it was a great excuse to head east out of La Grande, Oregon; Great drive!).

This is a total old school racing jeep.  The builder took a stock jeep, threw on some desert dogs, upgraded the engine with a buick v6 (leaving the stock exhaust manifolds), threw in a roll cage, vented the carb into the cowl, and that’s about it.  The builder’s son felt that there was a dana 44 in the rear that had posi, and maybe the front too, but he didn’t know for sure. Unfortunately, the weeds kept me from being able to get a jack under the jeep to test whether it had posi or not.

I haven’t seen any race jeeps with later model bodies on them.  I wouldn’t’ mind checking out a few more pics of this to see what kind of mods have been done.
