Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. (02/02/2016) Here’s a rare hardtop.
“i have a cj2a willys hardtop. i bought it a couple months ago amd wrecked the jeep before i even used it. i drove like 6 hours for it and paid what im asking. its in awesome shape. this specific type is very hard to find its fully rivited together with cast aluminum edges. has both doors and hatch but need glass. i was gunna use plexi glass. doors are suicide style. ”
Seller believes this was modified by Barris.
“I have a one of a kind 1951 Willys jeep hard top cj1a that i believe was made by Bairrs Customs in the late 1950s.”

UPDATE: Mystery solved. I found a couple brochures about this top. They were published in a 1947ish Willys Overland Equipment Book (thanks to Jon for letting me scan that particular folder). The suicide doors were original to this top. Examples of The Boston Top below:

This has the short nose, so it’s most likely a pre-1972. It’s an odd one!
“The car is a clean example of a self assembled woody wagon. this is a one of a kind model .I am not the original owner , it was purchased in 2013 in Pembervlle Ohio. The body work was done by a retired highway patrol officer. that had a lot of time on his hands. I would like any interested buyer to inspect the vehicle before purchase”

Very interesting hardtop.
“1947 C2A Steel cab farm version with PTO transmission. Yes there is rust on body but it is all original. Original Go Devil 4cyl engine. Original seat frames, etc., etc.”

Rare suicide doors. Anyone recognize the hardtop? Could be a Blue Star aluminum top that’s been customized.

(03/31/2014) The motor runs.
“46 cj2a has an early 60,s F head runs , was in a barn for 10 years It has some cracked fuel lines to the tank but fired up from a can, tank seems to be fine. Needs front floor work and side body work, prob no for the purist due to the later engine but would make a nice summer driver , has rear PTO setup,”

Runs and stops great, It’s a blast to drive. There are very few of these Willys Picks up survivors left.”

This might be a home made top, but the suicide doors are unusual.
“I have a cab top from a CJ2A. Top and back are stainless steel and has suicide doors. Pictured is the top on my jeep. Good shape.”

Blaine spotted this jeep with some nifty changes. The top is particularly interesting with its suicide doors.
“I am placing this posting for a friend. He does not hunt anymore. It is in very good condition has always been Inside can . It has a Ford V six engine, automatic transmission with a warning overdrive it cruises nicely at 65 mile-per-hour it has a hydraulic captein built into the fornt bumper there is no rust in the vehicle it runs excellent asking $5500 for it or best offer.”

This looks a well built custom truck for a good price.
“1948 Willys Pickup. Very very rare! 2WD. Only about 1,100 were made. It had less than 38,000 miles when it was turned into a hot rod truck. HP302ci built up with around 10,000 miles. Chop top, suicide doors, mustang 2 front end. Too many features to list. $8,000 cash, as low as I’ll go or will trade for a cool old car from the 50s-70s. You couldn’t build this truck for twice that amount.”
