1945 MB Syracuse, NY $12,500

• CATEGORIES: MB This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

I think the price is a bit high on this jeep, given it isn’t running and has no title, but if the price drops, this could be a reasonable project.  It sounds like the project has a lot of new parts that just need to be put together, though I suspect, as usual, it will be a bit more complicated than that.

“You are bidding on a 1945 Willys MB Army Jeep that is three quarters restored. This jeep has $12,500.00 invested into it so far. The jeep has a new tub which sits on the chassis but has not been bolted down though new rubber mounts and bolts included in the sale. The motor and chassis are 100% restored. The motor, transmission, transfer case and rear end were completely rebuilt. The brakes are complete including all new components and master cylinder including all steel and rubber lines. It has combat wheels on all 4 corners and original looking WW2 tires….”

The Austin Gipsy

• CATEGORIES: Features, Unusual This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

Expanding from the previous post about Austin Champs, the Austin Gipsy was a chance for Austin Champ designers to start from scratch using what they had learned from the Champ.

One of the most interesting features was an independent suspension design as seen in the drawing to the right.

1953 Austin Champ (British 4×4) Midland, MI **SOLD**

UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $2000

Brian forwarded this ad to me.  I’ve never knew these existed.  According to Wikipedia, these were built from 1951 – 1956 and were excellent cross country vehicles, apparently surpassing the capabilities of the Land Rover.  However, though the Land Rover could only do 80% of what the Champ could do, the Land Rover cost much less to produce, so the Champ contract was eventually cancelled.  Interestingly, the Champ had a 5 speed synchromesh tranny with reverse adapted to the rear drive line apart from the tranny, so that the Champ could do 5 speeds backwards as well.  Finally, the Champ had no transfercase, instead the driveline went to the rear differential and then there was a takeoff to the front differential (which had a clutch to control 2wd/4wd mode).  These would make a very interesting project.”

I thought this one had an interesting paint job.

“For auction is a 1952 Willys CJ3 4 Wheel Drive Jeep. Includes what appears to the original 4cyl. Flathead engine that starts, idles and runs well. The manual 3-speed transmission shifts smoothly. Includes good matching tires. Removeable vinyl top, that is in good condition. The speedometer does not work but the title dated in July, 2008 states that the actual miles were 62,500.”

UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $4500.

“Leave the tow rig at home, this jeep gets 25+ mpg and cruises at 70 mph. Built with an all DOM tube chassis it’s super strong and only weighs 2000 lbs. Has long arm 4 link suspension for a lot of travel off road.
The entire drivetrain is from a 4 cyl. 1997 wrangler. Fuel injection and emissions are hooked up. Why show up at the trail in a rig that looks just like everybody elses?”
