Increasing old Jeep Sales and the Economy
Christopher made an interesting point in one his comments. He mentioned that he’s seeing more jeeps for sale. Well, oh boy, did this get me thinking ….. and while this is tangentially related to jeeps, it more about my thoughts on the economy.
I agree wholeheartedly with Christopher. I believe the number of flat fenders appearing for sale is greater now, and the prices better, than I’ve seen since I started following them (which is only 2 years mind you). Most of the ads appear to have the same theme, ‘don’t want to sell but need the money’. Now, I don’t keep actual stats on this, but I have been pondering ways to do this without it being a time burden …
Combing Trends
When I combine the jeep sale trend I see with the recent October filings for unemployment insurance (highest in 16 years) and the record drop in October US house sales (worst in 50 years), plus the number of job applications per job here in Boise, I get the feeling the economy is still heading downward.

“1946 CJ2A Jeep with Arctic Top. Engine runs good, rebuilt starter and Carburetor. New tires. This jeep needs some body work (after all, it’s 62 years old.) The frame rails are solid, only surface rust that I’ve seen. I’m sure I’ve done some other things to it. If I think of them I’ll edit the posting. And yes, the carburetor has been covered at all times. I just took off the cover for the pic. I’ll sell the Jeep without the Arctic Top for $1600.00. Prices are firm. These Jeeps are getting more valuable daily. I just don’t have the time for it any more”

This is a great price on 4 rims for wide tires such as paddle tires. Someone was looking for a set of these but whom … hmmm.
“The are a chrome modular wheel. I was using them on my CJ5. I Had sand paddles mounted on them. These are 15 inch with the 5 on 5.50 (five and a half) bolt pattern. They have no scratches, rust, dents etc. They are in near perfect condition. Since I was using them for sand tires, I was running them with a ten inch wide up front and a twelve inch wide in the rear for the paddles. “

Sounds like it needs a little work. Strangely, no step-side drain holes or a gas inlet hole. I’m not sure whether the back is solid or not.
“46 Jeep CJ2A with some other parts, like the windshield is 53.- Military colors, this is a great farm jeep or offroad project. Runs great, great rubber. Floor pan has some rot. Frame and all other parts and metal are in good shape. Front seats in good shape. 12volt conversion done and makes it street legal. We used it for the summer house, comes with full doors and top.”

This jeep has a 30 front and 44 rear with posi and 4:10 gears. This is a great price. Where were these jeeps when I was looking a year and a half ago! The fenders have been lengthened, which explains the odd hood. I wonder if this is a later model frame.
“1949 Jeep Willys 4×4 CJ-2A flat fender. Body and frame in good-excellent shape with very minimal rust for the year. Roll bar installed with a fold down windshield and newer black jeep cj-7 seats. NO rear seat. Front axle is a Dana 30 with drum brakes with a Dana 44 rear. The rear axle has a positrac unit installed (not welded or Lincoln locked), 4.10 gears front and rear. The brakes for being drums work surprisingly well. The engine is an international scout v8 345 with a holley 2 barrel carb mated to a 3 speed manual transmission and a dana 20 twin stick tcase.”
