Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. I thought this was an interesting ad. The two ‘selling’ points in this 1948 ad for the Willys Trucks are that they save on gas and oil & that they have a tight turning radius.
UPDATE: Status Unknown. Was priced at $4000.

“1952 Willys M38A1 Military Jeep. All original Except color, bikini top and front bumper. 24 volt generator has been replaced with 24 volt alternator. Blackouts have been removed and replaced with turn signals. Runs good. Engine and powertrain are in good working condition including 4wd and have never been rebuilt. Could be a great restoration vehicle for military or jeep enthusiast. $4000 or could consider reasonable offer. I have the original military service manual and some extra parts. contact through craigslist for any questions.”
I’m not sure if the seller is selling the jeep only or bundling this with the truck and scout.

(11/01/2010) This appears in great condition. I’m wondering if this is actually a CJ-3A.
“Jeep CJ2, Calif Yellow & Black Plates, Clear Title. Has original “Go Devil” Flathead 4 motor. A very clean Jeep with no dents or rust. Good Glass, Seat and Tires. Runs smoothly. I have only used this for parades and car shows (show & tell) It has not been beaten up off roading. ”
The passenger side looks pretty rusted out.

“1949 Willys wagon. $650 or first reasonable offer. Has clear title. Very complete but VERY rusty. Engine turns over but I have not been able to get it to start. I am trying to clear out projects I cannot get to. Please email for more info. and then I will give you my phone number. Once again, there is ALOT of rust in the rockers on this. I have spare solid doors and I believe a tailgate as well. Could use for parts, or as a challenge to your metalworking skills.”
This has an engine knock.

The front frame rails have been heavily reinforced. You gotta love that ‘hardtop’. Despite this, I think there’s some value
