(08/03/2012) “A rare vehicle. First year the civilian jeep was made with less than 150 miles since overhaul of engine, transmission, and transfer case. Less than 100 miles on a new overdrive. Included but not installed is a system to operate engine by creating gas from burning wood chips (producer gas generator). Seats in great condition, new tires, pretty clean considering its age. Make offer, motivated seller. Runs great.”

This jeep appears to have the same model of hub as the picture below which I found in 2010. Anyone know what it is?
For quite some time I’ve heard rumors that eWillys was causing daily slowdowns at the ARB USA headquarters in Renton, Washington, which just happens to be down the hill from my parents’ house. Yesterday I finally got a chance to investigate the issue, thanks to an invite by Mitch Carter.
For those that don’t know, ARB was founded by Anthony Ronald Brown in Australia in the 1970s. Originally the company produced bumpers, but quickly grew through the development of other products. They also grew by purchasing additional manufacturers (air lockers, suspensions, and more) and expanded across models and years to provide a wide array of 4×4 products. They even have some portable cooler-like refrigerators made for off-road folks that will freeze food. Today ARB is the largest 4×4 distributor in Australia and the company exports products around the world.
Mitch gave me a tour of the ARB facility. Given all the equipment they handle, they need a big warehouse. This is just the front area:
Roberto Flores has produced some great looking mugs, including one with a CJ-3B on it. The price is 15€ plus shipping (shipping to the U.S. is approx 22€).

This GPW has some interesting history. The front bumper wasn’t restored to original specs, so given the price it would be worth looking this over closely.
“This Jeep has undergone a complete professional frame up restoration. This has just been done. It wasn’t in bad shape–no rust, fully equipped, but I wanted an exceptional Jeep which would be easy to drive with slack free steering, very dependable and a great looking piece of American history. Some call the WWII Jeep “America’s first sports car.”
Highlights of the restoration
— professional complete engine rebuild
— rebuilt transmission, transfer case, clutch, differential, radiator, 12 volt electronics, steering box
— new brakes, fuel pump, muffler and exhaust, fuel tank, gages, canvas top, windshield wipers, weather stripping horn, upholstery, and 5 new combat tires.
Provenance
During World War II this Jeep was assigned to a two star general and slated to go to England. Orders were changed and both general and Jeep went to Colorado Springs where the Jeep was used to pull aircraft out of Army Air Corps hangers. After the war it was sold to a private person, who drove it for pleasure and also leased occasionally to several Hollywood motion picture studios where it was filmed in a number of war movies. The drivers seat was lengthened slightly to accommodate actors such as Ernest Borgnine and Dan Duryae. I bought the Jeep two years ago and have used it restored for short stints around town and to the Virginia Beach Antique Military Aviation Museum where I am a docent.”
