As you might have noticed recently, eWillys was offline. This was as much a surprise to me as it was to everyone else.
What happened? Last Wednesday eWillys’ web server stopped functioning correctly. When rebooted the server would function correctly for a minute or two, before becoming overwhelmed. Successive reboots proved useless.
What caused the problem? We still don’t know. After fiddling around with the server, we (meaning the McDonagh Brothers .. not much I could do) determined that the web server ran fine if it was not allowed to communicate with the wilds of the internet. What we concluded was that something might have been injected onto the server that was feeding back onto the web, consuming the resources of the web server. But, truthfully, we don’t know, because it didn’t work long enough to dissect.
The solution? After discussing the problem, I learned the McDonagh’s had built a cloud platform and were moving clients to it. I made the call to move eWillys to their cloud sooner than planned and move it onto the latest installation of a clean version of WordPress.
Why did that take 5 days? The problem was that they were already in the middle of moving other clients, so I needed to wait. While we waited, they tried restarting the server from time-to-time, but the same thing kept happening.
So, the good news is that eWillys is now on a faster platform. And, the move would have occurred anyway, so we have that out of the way!
UPDATES: During the downtime I created the code for a couple updates (which I still need to install). One is a bit of code that auto-marks post older than 6 months.
The second changes the way eWillys functions. When you click on a post’s comment or title link from the front page, a new browser tab will open. I am hoping this reduces the need to jump back and forth between the front page and individual posts. I will get that pertinent files installed in the next day or two.
Paul really seems serious about finishing his jeep! Below he shares photos and updates:
All sidewall and top upholstery panels have been installed so I began cutting foam for the front seats.
Still waiting on the carpet for the rear wheel well tops, the rear floor and the front seat footwell areas.
Here you’re looking at the rear window panel and the left rear wheel well. I think the gray fabric and the stainless steel look pretty good together.
I’m looking forward to getting the seats upholstered. The gray and blue seat colors should add a bit of color to the interior.
Front seats reinstalled, the foam is rough cut and the combination of thick foam for the bottom and thin foam for the back will allow enough room for me to reach all of the controls and still see out the windshield. The side windows are another matter. I should have Sumo-sized my Willys.
I don’t remember ever publishing these two ads.

UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $9500
Looks solid.
“1958 CJ-3B. Body tub is in great shape – it appears that a previous owner pulled the tub and replaced floor pans and so tub and frame are in great shape. Paint is ok but not perfect (crack in paint on left quarter panel and nickel sized paint flake on right quarter panel, various other nicks). I replaced transmission with new one ordered from Kaiser Willys. I also added new Warn premium locker hubs, did substantial brake work (two drums, shoes, a wheel cylinder, etc) and rebuilt steering arm. I believe motor to be original and it starts right off and runs great. My mechanic looked at clutch when we replaced transmission and he said it looks quite new. Mileage could not be verified by prior owner, so no guess as to accuracy. Horn is missing as is emergency brake cable and handle (drum and shoes appear to be in good shape).”
UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $5500.
The truck has an unusual tow package.
“Willy’s jeep for sale. – Originally from the state of Wyoming. The wagon has a cover, winch, high lift jack, and like new tires. Ran when parked. Engine turns over.”

“I have a 1946 Willys cj2a. 134ci overhead valve engine that runs good with no smoke. Carburetor was recently rebuilt and all bushings are tight, cooling system is in good shape it holds water, body is mostly solid for its age, some rust under the gas tank and under the passenger seat. Will sell with or without the title. Looking to sell or trade. Interested in old motorcycles or scooters, firearms, or maybe something else.”
