1947 CJ-2A Apache Junction, AZ **SOLD**

• CATEGORIES: CJ-2A This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

UPDATE: **SOLD**

It includes an overdrive.

To the best of my knowledge this is a 1947 Jeep CJ2A. Other than a couple very small spots
it is rust free. This is being sold for parts only as there is no title or paperwork. It had been sitting
in a storage lots for over 30 years. It is missing the driver fender and other small items so look
closely at the pictures because what you see is what you get. The transmission/transfer case and
mount is included. Also is the adapter to mount it to a FORD smallblock such as a 289 or 302.
The frame looks fine and also included is the back half of another CJ2A with the complete rear
axle and fuel tank. The tires are completely shot but it has 4 nice matching wide rims.
The steering is not hooked up and ther body is not bolted to the frame….”

1950 CJ-3A Tewksbury, MA **SOLD**

• CATEGORIES: CJ-3A • TAGS: This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $3500.

(07/18/2014) Includes an extra, stock tub.

1950 CJ3A Willys Jeep for sale. Original 6 volt system with Go-Devil engine. Runs solid with title in hand. Jeep needs minor brake work and is ready for the road (or off road). Many extras are included.

I bought this as a restoration project but no longer have the time. I have pictures of the whole process if the buyer is interested. This jeep is solid and comes with an extra original tub. There is nothing wrong with the current tub… but it had body work done to it in the past (not uncommon) that took away some of the original elements. I found an unmolested tub in Nebraska and had it shipped here and was converted it to original.

The title is clean and I will be sorry to see this jeep go, but need to devote my time elsewhere. Price is negotiable if the owner is not interested in the extra tub.”

Driving Panama’s Darien Gap in 1960

• CATEGORIES: Features, Magazine This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

Given the Darien Gap video above, it seemed appropriate that I (finally) share parts of a March 1961 (pg 366-389) article about a group of seven adventurers who pulled, pushed, towed and cajoled a Willys Truck and a Land-Rover through the rough Panamanian country-side, officially becoming the first vehicles to ever make the Darien Gap trip. The article and photographs were both by Kip Ross.

Wikipedia notes, “The first vehicular crossing of the Gap was by the Land Rover La Cucaracha Cariñosa (The Affectionate Cockroach) and a Jeep of the Trans-Darién Expedition of 1959–60, crewed by Amado Araúz (Panama), his wife Reina Torres de Araúz, former Special Air Service man Richard E. Bevir (UK), and engineer Terence John Whitfield (Australia). They left Chepo, Panama, on 2 February 1960 and reached Quibdó, Colombia, on 17 June 1960, averaging 201 m (220 yd) per hour over 136 days. They traveled a great deal of the distance up the vast Atrato River.” For some reason, Wikipedia doesn’t include the three other members, Otis Imboden, Ilse Abshagen, and, of course, Kip Ross.

You can learn more about the different groups that crossed the Darien Gap at Wikipedia:  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Darién_Gap

In addition, “The first all-land auto crossing was in 1985–87 by Loren Upton and Patty Mercier in a CJ-5 Jeep, taking 741 days to travel 125 miles (201 km). This crossing is documented in the 1992 Guinness Book of Records.”

1960 CJ-3B Elizabeth, CO **SOLD**

• CATEGORIES: CJ-3B • TAGS: , This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $8500.

The Hudson Steering upgrade sure was popular in Colorado. Great looking 3B.

I am selling my 1960 CJ3B jeep which I bought from the original owner about 20 years ago. Jeep is all original except it has hudson steering added which makes the jeep steer like power steering. Original F-head engine and running gear with 5:38 gear ratio. It has a aftermarket carburetor but I do have the original. It also has a koenig PTO winch and Hella driving lights. Jeep was painted about 15 years ago to its original red color and still looks great as I store it inside. Wheels, windshield frame, gear shift covers, etc. have been powder coated. Also included are 4 studded tire chains and a bikini top. I hate to sell my jeep but just do not use it anymore. These CJ3B’s are highly sought after and getting hard to find. No low ballers or dealers. Thank You”
