Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. “I am on the fence about posting my favorite vehicle ever…….but its time for me to move on to other things. She’s still running a 6-volt generator system, she has the original style flat head 4 cylinder, T-90 transmission, Dana 18 transfer case with an overdrive, and I also have a pto to go with her just the gear box that attaches to the transfer case and a original style top bows and door frames. Just need to have the original canvas top made.”

Interesting engine choice for a later build. The fact that it appears in a Desert Dog ad is pretty cool!
“This car was raced in the late 70’s and 80’s the last race it completed was in 1990. Glenn Emery built this car as one of the first 4WD 4 wheel independent suspension rear engine vehicle. It has a Buick 215 V8 mated to a Turbo 350 transmission with a B&M shifter. There is a Casal V-drive to get the driveline turned the correct direction mated with a corvette rear pumpkin. The car is rock solid and has a solid start on the restoration. The car is currently street legal and runs, get in it and go have fun. I’m not entirely sure how much travel this car has, but it’s a lot. It can take 2-3 ft whoops at any speed.
My uncle was in the pit crew back in the day when Glenn Emery owned the car. He sold the car to Carl Cook and we tracked the car down a few years ago and found it sitting in a barn. We got it running again and started the restoration. Mickey Thompson has driven and raced this car a few times as well, it is a true timepiece of off road racing. The old pictures have Mickey Thompson in the drivers seat. Life got in the way and we haven’t used it as much as we wanted and it is sitting more than it gets used.

CJ-5 set up for ice racing in Georgetown, Colorado. Unfortunately, racing was cancelled this last winter as the lake ice didn’t get thick enough to allow racing.

This classic jeep was gone through and upgraded in 1998 with a cj2a body and a cj3a windshield on an original ford gpw chassis, rebuilt/upgraded drive train, built to be a reliable and capable off roader. Titled and registered in Colorado.
231 even fire Buick v6 bored .30 over, edelbrock performer manifold with a holly 390cfm 4barrel and a 4 core radiator with manual and electric fans.
Borg-Warner T-86AA synchronized 3spd, Dana 20 t-case, front Dana 30 and the rear is a Dana 44 with a Detroit locker. Axles are stock width with 5.38:1 gear ratio
Mild lift with new springs, all new brake system with 11” drums brakes at all four corners, nice 31-10.50×15 mudders on it now, used to be 32-11.50×15 but they limited the steering radius and did not work well with the Colorado trails.
