This May 23, 1943, American Car Company Ad was published in the Evening Star, out of Washington, D. C.. Given Bantam lost the production contract in 1941, it seems an unusual ad, especially many folks probably hadn’t heard of nor seen a Bantam vehicle.

1950s Postcard of Salty Johns, Junior and Their Jeep on eBay
UPDATE: Here’s another postcard of Salty Johns on eBay.
This postcard shows Salty Johns, his dog Junior, and his “Flashy” jeep. Salty’s real name was Vernon Johns. He worked as the Audubon Society Wildlife Warden for Lydia Ann Island. He also brought some color to the Port Aransas, Texas, beaches. That sure is an unusual bumper setup.
1969 DJ-5 Woodstock, GA **SOLD**

This has a variety of mods. The entrances have been modified quite a bit. It’s oddly cool in it’s own way.

“I have had this Jeep for 32 yrs with my dad (have had it 5 yrs since his passing). It has been a very good hunting vehicle for us, but have decided to let someone else enjoy it. Everything works on it and is mostly original or as gotten. Please see itemized list below:
Engine: 1953 134 F-head (replaced in 1986 from original Flathead)
Elect.: 12V (switched at engine change-out from 6V system)
Original Running gear: (Transmission, rear-ends, and transfer case (2 stick)
Extras: Tow bar, 2000 lb winch (used once to pull out buck), Warn locking hubs, good tires and tread, runs and drives strong, solid 6-point ROPS (roll over protection system) with front and middle being added professionally in 2017, all required lights work (head, tail and brake), all 7 off-road lights work (back up flood, 2 floods on front bumper, 2 KC Daylighters on rear roll bar and 2 36W/360 lumen Cree lights on front roll bar, CB antenna with all wiring in place (will change out existing fire radio with CB if wanted, the towing light bar with standard 7-way plug and a Mico hydraulic e-brake.
This Jeep is ready to be used with no fixing on your part. I used it all 2018 deer season with no issues. If you are looking for a hunting rig that is reliable and ready to go and at a fair price, this is it.
I will entertain only serious offers, and ignore all low-ballers. I am not here to give it away, but will respect a fair offer, just the same.
Please email me with any questions or interest.”

“1975 POSTAL JEEP 383 BLOWER MOTOR RUN GREAT REAL KOOL RIDE CALL ONLY”
1954 M-38A1 Flower Mound, TX **SOLD**
UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $7000.
I assume the wires sticking out of the battery box was a temporary thing related to getting the jeep going. It looks solid.
“1954 Willys M38A1, original 24v, 4 cylinder. Military tires, roof believed to be original and in good condition (no rips/tears). Fording kit, heater, military 24v charging port installed. OEM Brass Fire Ext. All canvas including front radiator cover for winter. Some of the door/ side curtain fastener stays have started to pull through.
Inherited this from my father who owned it 10-12 years, I was probably the last person to drive it 2009-2010. Started working on getting it running again, cleaned fuel system, new carb, new starter. Start and runs, with a miss, not sure why. Need to get this moved to finish the garage it’s in.”
