Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. I know what Dave says about diamond plate, and he is probably correct. How ever I always think, covering up rust or damage. Be nice to be able to take it off, but then you have all those holes.

There are certainly times (on my father’s cj5 for example) where there were covering up damage. Your point about the holes are correct. They have to be patched.
For the record, that side patch on the jeep above was not standard practice.
