Scott directed me to an article in the October 1976 issue of South Africa’s CAR Magazine. It highlighted the jeeps that Volkswagen, having secured a license from AMC, was building in South Africa. Below is a copy from the article. CAR Magazine still exists; you can find it on Facebook and on the Web.

“Here is a really cool vintage, Willys Jeep glass ashtray. The ashtray is in good to very good condition. There are no chips or cracks in the glass. There is a little bit of wear to the decal, it is not perfect. The ashtray measures about 5 3/4 inches long, by about 3 3/4 inches wide.”

1947 Truck Phoenix, AZ BAT Auction
Blaine spotted the auction for this nicely refurbed truck. Current bid is $5000.
https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1947-willys-truck/
“This 1947 Willys Jeep Truck is a first-year example that was acquired by the seller in 2016 and subsequently refurbished at The Jeep Farm in Waddell, Arizona. The exterior was refinished in Bedford Grey with Challenger Blue accents, and the interior was reupholstered in Pendleton blanket fabric and blue vinyl. The 2.2L Go-Devil inline-four was resealed, and sends power to all four wheels via a three-speed manual transmission and a Spicer transfer case. Work in 2020 included a carburetor service, wiring repairs, coolant flush and some paint work. Approximately 2,350 four-wheel drive Willys Jeep Trucks were made in 1947 and this example is now offered with records, a reprinted owner’s manual, and a clean Arizona title in the name of the seller’s LLC….”

“1952 Willys Jeep CJ-3a 4X4 Flat Fender L-134
Runs well (for almost 70 years old), drives, safe and legal on streets, good tires, good brakes (for drums), all working gauges (including new fuel gauge and sender, and new speedo), and currently registered until summer 2021. Drive train (3 speed, two or four wheel drive) and engine are mostly original/original restore except converted to 12V with alternator. Original L-134 Willys engine. 4 wheel drive with front locking hubs (hubs not original).
Lots of extras/upgrades including:
> Full 6 point roll cage
> Bikini Top (very good condition)
> Includes Aluminum HARD TOP!!! with doors (needs some work – about 85% complete, missing rear window/hatch, missing one door window and handles, but very hard to find these and it’s a nice extra to have)
> Extended steering box
> Extra front push bar with Extra lights, front grill guard
> Setup for towing, INCLUDES mated tow bar
> External Overflow tank (similar to Desert Cooler)
> Good seats, with seatbelts front and back
> Spare Tire
> “Willys” stamped on both fenders and tailgate
> Horn and turn signals (that only sort of work – I use hand signals)
> New 165 deg thermostat
> Very little time on newer alternator
> Good battery with blade disconnect
Certainly not a “show Jeep”, but was perviously used as a “tow behind” with a motor home for hunting/fishing/around camp transportation.
So Cal car for at least the last 20 years, no structural rust (mild surface rust on some scratches). Drove it roundtrip from Northridge to Simi Valley last week in 90 degree weather.
Can drive or tow home (but remember the top speed is about 50 mph down hill!)
If you want a Willys Jeep, especially for a tow-behind, you should definitely take a look.”

1947 CJ-2A Sioux Falls, IA $5500
This has some mods. The cowl sides appear stretched and the grille appears pushed forward; probably related to the installed 283.
