1948 CJ-2A Phoenix, AZ **SOLD**

UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $500

The seller does a good job of describing this rolling chassis.

“First and foremost, this Jeep has a normal, CLEAN TITLE. No data plates are included though (the previous owner couldn’t locate them). But if you want data plates, reproductions are readily available and you stamp the serial number from the title on them. I purchased this a few weeks ago for some parts I needed for my ’46 restoration, and this is the culmination of parts that I don’t need or have extras of. The frame is solid with no major rust areas, but the front frame horn area (forward of the front crossmember) will either need some work to straighten them out or replacement. The rear axle is the original D41, and the front axle is a D25 from a WWII Ford GPW. (The front axle might be worth a bit if you can find someone restoring a GPW). This Jeep might be a bit much to consider using as a base for a full restoration, but would be PERFECT for a crawler build! Here’s a few more specifics:

Tub: Pretty decent shape (actually, it’s in MUCH better shape than my ’46), but someone has deleted the tailgate area and welded a steel panel in its place. They did a pretty decent job of it too. It looks good, but I want a tailgate. If it hadn’t been for this modification, I’d be keeping this tub. The hat channels underneath are in pretty good shape as well (considering it’s a 64 year old Jeep). The front floor has been covered in fiberglass. The rear floor is in pretty solid shape with one area that needs some patching. Wheelhouses look great. Dash panel looks very good with only a few “bubba holes.”

Windshield Frame: Originally from a military (Korean War era) M38. These are somewhat desirable for their one-piece (and much larger) glass (no glass is present though). Still has the original OD green paint underneath the white.

Hood: Has been repaired in the past (welded down the middle seam). They didn’t do a very good job of it, but it looks repairable.

Fenders: A few extra holes here an there (like the common practice of installing a second pair of hold-downs at the rear of the fender), but in good shape.

Wheels/Tires: Mismatched set, but they do hold air; will serve well as rollers, but I wouldn’t try and drive on them.

Drivetrain: NO ENGINE, TRANSMISSION OR TRANSFER CASE INCLUDED. For those that want to attempt an original-ish restoration, I can sell them a L134 engine, T90 transmission and D18 transfer case in rebuildable condition for an additional $250. The engine has been sitting a while, but I pulled the oil pan and everything looks great; turns over freely. Hell, it may even start right up; who knows.”

(03/10/2012) This is an oddball.  I dont’ see that rim design too often.

“Selling an early 1945 Willys CJ2A Jeep. Frame in good condition. Originally a manual coulmn shift. Rear section of body was modified with a 1930s Ford pickup bed and tailgate. No engine, gearbox, or transfer case. Good for project, or parts.”

1956 CJ-5 Ventura, CA $900

• CATEGORIES: CJ5 • TAGS: This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

UPDATE:  Price dropped to $900.  This includes a PTO.

Slight sag in a rear . . .

“all original willys jeep owned by same owner for 25 plus years. rebuilt motor with very low miles on it. pto trans with winch in back. everything works 4×4 winch all gears runs and drives good. the winch is strong, easily stronger than my warn 9000. the bad news is it used to have an A frame on the back that’s why it has the winch in the back and it was used to lift stuff to heavy so the frame and body are bent down in the back. the frame is bent down from the axel back. the body is pretty rough. this would be a great parts car or a desert toy. it will go anywhere. windshield not cracked. wiper works. still 6v set up. lots of original parts on it worth money. the pto trans works great and shifts smooth. have an original spare tire as well. have clean title and it is currently ca registered. brand new battery. email call or text, in email put jeep 4×4 in subject or i will not answer do to spam. 8-0-5,509,-3322. i work on weekdays till 3:30 so if you call before then i will not pick up but feel free to leave a message. might be interested in a trade for jeep Cherokee, Comanche, jet-ski, etc.. lemme know what you got with a picture. i get pic messages.”

1946 CJ-2A Farmersville, TX **SOLD**

• CATEGORIES: CJ-2A • TAGS: , This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $2200. May have a Porter & Reed hardtop

(10/09/2012) This looks to have rust along the driver’s side.  It has no title.

“1946 Willys CJ2a jeep that has been used on a deer lease. The jeep runs and drives good. The gauges all work, horn works, lights all work, the four wheel drive works good, the transfer case seal on the front drips gear oil, the transfer case makes some noise but still works good, the engine runs good, the cab on the jeep can come off, but works pretty good in the winter. The jeep does have some rust, this jeep would be good for hunting out of or using on a ranch. The jeep has not been on the road and the title is lost, but will provide a bill of sale to the winner.”

UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $1600

(06/30/2012) Rolling Chassis.  It has full floaters, but tough to tell from the pics if the frame/rear is civilian or military.

“Rolling chassie with body…
NO engine, has trans and transfer case, full floating axles
the dash is there with gauges but the glass is cracked, no seats
the windshield frame is complete, but the glass is busted and the hinges are rough
only real rust is on the bottom of the tool box on the passenger side

fenders are straight, its pretty much all there except the engine…even the shift pattern plaques for the trans and t case are on the dash!!”

1958 DJ-3A Lake George, CO **SOLD**

• CATEGORIES: DJ-3A • TAGS: This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $1500.

Based on the Serial Number this is technically a 1958.  You can follow the discussion here and here.

It doesn’t run at the moment.

“We have a 1957 Jeep Willys (Kaiser) DJ-2A Flathead 2WD in our barn. We are evaluating what to do with it but we are not interested in fixing it up. It has all the parts and was running (driven into the garage) but it is rough. We want to sell it but do not want to chop it up or part it out because it was running when we drove it into the barn about 4 years ago.”

Next Updates Sunday Evening

Ann and I arrived safely in Pasco after a sunny/rainy/snowy/windy day driving through the panhandle of Idaho, then west to Pasco. We spotted and photographed a couple jeeps, ate some good food and visited with family; so it was a complete day!

More tomorrow on this possible CJ-2L Bruce spotted. Note rare Desert Dog PCV tires (not that they are in good shape).  They have a tighter tread than the standard Desert Dog tires.

The Four Wheel Steer Bantam in Pop Mechanics

• CATEGORIES: Bantam-FordGP-WillysMA-EarlyJPs, Features, Magazine • TAGS: This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

I spotted this brief note about the four-wheel-steer Bantam BRC-40 on page 167 of the May 1946 issue of Popular Mechanics.  Why it appeared five years after it was built seems a little strange.  I can’t imagine the army keeping this model top secret for any reason.  Maybe they needed some filler for the issue?

Here is a link to the Google page that shows the whole article
