2 Webpages: Early MB Differences & British Airborne Jeep

• CATEGORIES: Features, MB, Website This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

I was looking up something for a reader when I stumbled upon these two webpages.  One page documents some of the differences between very early MBs and later ones.  The second page provides detail pics of a British Airborne Slatgrille in Signal Configuration. I thought both pages have nice detail pics and explanations.

CJ-2A Project Wenatchee, Wa $1500

• CATEGORIES: CJ-2A This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

It sure looks like a project.

“CJ2A project. Body is very good condition for one this age. minor dings but needs a section under the tool box replaced. Has 15″ wheels on rolling frame but have 16″ on old tires for it. Very good grille, hood, windshield, fenders, and tailgate. Have an engine but it needs to be rebuilt. Frame has a transmission and transfer case already on it. No seats. Don’t have a title but have paper work for one after its rebuilt. Title was destroyed and the guy I got it from got all the paper work and went to WSP who told him it just needs to be inspected before a title can be issued. Other than seats have most everything needed to put it together. Radiator should be checked but is there. Might consider something interesting in trade. I like gas station items or could use landscaping and not just the labor. I have a pathway and retaining wall that need to be made.”

1943 Ford Burma Truck Denver, Co eBay

• CATEGORIES: Other 4x4s, Unusual • TAGS: This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

Greg spotted this old Burma up for auction in Denver.  There’s something about the placement of the headlights that makes me think these vehicles appear hunched over in some way, ready to bear their load.

“1943 Ford Burma Jeep.  Unrestored as shown.  Stored at least 10 years, either driveline or engine, or both siezed or locked up from non-use, so expect motor and driveline restoration is also needed.  Does not run or drive. Rust on stake bed areas, as shown.

“US Navy” marked on the engine cover data plate, Also visible is “149958” which is the title VIN number, and other number appears to be “90148”, but not guaranteed.  Other data plates are nearly illegible, sorry.

Sold with title, SALVAGE Colorado Title.  Vehicle was used off road on a mountain property for many years, and was not driven the last several years.  It was easier to replace a long lost title as a salvage vehicle, otherwise the vehicle would have had to be brought into running/driving condition and submitted for inspections, etc.  So for now the vehicle is not intended for registered highway use in Colorado, until the new owner brings it into running/driving condition, meets any other guidelines necessary, and applies for previously salvage title.  Please check with your local authorities if you intend to restore and/or make road worthy for public roads, or if any inspections or other procedures would be required.”

A Reader Files a report from Thailand .. sort of …..

• CATEGORIES: Features, MB, Reader Stories This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

A reader named Bob was vacationing in Thailand when he spotted this pair of nicely restored MBs (one is a slat grille). An intrepid reporter, Bob captured the jeeps on video (download the video here — 11MB) which shows closeups of both jeeps and with a still image (seen below).  He also talked briefly with the owner, Pete, who has two blotspot websites devoted to his Jeeps (the 1941 slat grille MB & the 1944 MB & Video of both Jeeps by Pete).  Thanks for sharing Bob!

Bob filed this report, “I just came across these MB’s on the side of the road, as I was touring the island on a motorbike.   I’m sorry I don’t have much info about Pete. I met him in the small bar across the street ( see in video with balloons across the front ) and we talked a little about the Jeeps.  Pete emigrated to Thailand from the UK.  He’s a really nice guy with a Thai wife and some kids.  He claims you cannot import any of these Jeeps to Thailand anymore.  I’m not sure if it is because of the Left Hand Drive or not.  He said they are very valuable there too – worth over 1,000,000 Baht each ($31000 USD).”

1962 FC-170 Sandy, UT **SOLD**

• CATEGORIES: FC150-FC170-M677 • TAGS: , This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $4000.

“1962 Jeep FC-170. This is a bone stock truck with the exception of the wheels and tires. Has had alot of work done to bring it back from the dead, runs and drives as well as an old jeep would. 226 Super Hurricane flathead 6 engine, T90 3 speed trans, T18 Transfer case. Since owning this I have cleaned and flushed the fuel system, rebuilt carb, rebuilt the rear brakes with all new parts, including new model backing plates to be able to move the E-brake to the wheels instead of the drum behind the transfer case. Brake is still on transfer case, this was done for later powertrain upgrade. Read diff has had the posi unit rebuilt with OEM clutches, and new axle bearings. Front wheel cylinders are replaced and a new master cylinder. New water pump and clutch. I hate to let this go, I was looking forward to putting in a modern powertain and having a completely unique truck to use, but priorities have changed.”
