Some Updates …

• CATEGORIES: Biscuit, Builds, Features This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

For the Fourth of July, I celebrated by heading back to the formerly snow bound roads near Boise’ only ski area, Bogus Basin.  As you can see in this pic, the snow is gone (see snow pics here), the mountains are now in bloom, and more progress was made.  More on that tomorrow ….

A 1950 CJ-3A: Today, Darrel had to talk to me.  So he stopped next to me, while I waited at a stop light, rolled down his window, and started asking me questions — what year was my jeep, who did my roll cage, and more …

Now, I had no idea who Darrel was.  However, in the time it took for the stop light to finally change colors, Darrel had explained through his passenger side window that he A) liked what I had built, B) had a 1950 CJ-3A, C) wanted his jeep rebuilt for his daughter, D) had his jeep nearby, and E) wanted me to follow him there.  If I learned that much at a stop light, I wondered how much I would learn about him once we stopped to see his jeep.

True to his word, he lived very close and had a 1950 CJ-3A that needed some work — hadn’t been run in 15 years.  It had a V-8 conversion, solid body, rotted top and plenty of potential.  And, to my surprise, based on my jeep, he asked me to do the work (and will pay me). I don’t have pics of this just yet.  I’ll share more about this if we go forward with the project.

Brian wrote to me late last week to share a sad tale.  As a part of the continued testing with his new build, he learned the hard way what happens if the oil in the front pumpkin housing gets too low AND the 4wd somehow gets accidentally shifted into gear (how that happened is still a mystery to him).  The result:  his front pinion started freezing up, resulting in some ugly sounds and a twisted driveline. See the pics to the right.

The good news is that everything else continues to behave well.

1952 M-38A1 Waxahatchie, Tx eBay

• CATEGORIES: Fire/Police/Industry Vehicles, M-38A1 This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

Here’s an old fire jeep.  It turns over and run, but there’s a mechanical problem of some kind.

“Mfg. Serial Number 21583. Date of Delivery 9/52. I bought two of these Jeeps in a package deal. I only want one of them, so I am selling this one. This Jeep would make a nice Jeep to restore. The body has a few bad places on it but all or easily repairable. There is very little rust on this Jeep, you can tell from the photos that the floorboards and toolbox is rust free. This jeep was used as a Fire Truck Brush Jeep and had at one time had a small tank in the rear floorboard. A couple of holes were placed in the floorboard for hoses leaving the tanks but I think they could easily be patched. The engine does turn over but there must be a problem in the drive train because it pulls hard when in gear. In any case it would make a nice Jeep to do a ground up restoration on. There isn’t a title for this Jeep but I will include with a Bill of Sale. Sold as is where is with no warranties expressed or implied. Selling it as a parts vehicle to be restored.”

1949 CJ-3A San Angelo, TX **SOLD**

• CATEGORIES: CJ-3A • TAGS: , This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $6000.

This looks in good shape.

“1949 Willys Jeep in great condition. Only a small bit of rust on the undercarriage. Otherwise the Jeep is in outstanding condition. The engine was rebuilt by the previous owner and always starts easy and runs strong. The roll bar and front and rear bumpers are custom made with a detachable tow bar and receiver adapters for winch or other uses. All tires are new. The transmission and transfer case both work well and appear to be original. The electrical system has been converted to 12 volts and has a GM alternator. All lights work and backup lights have been installed for general use or field dressing game animals. The brakes work well, but the master cylinder leaks. It has not been registered since 1999, but can easily be registered as an antique. I have not owned this Jeep very long and really don’t need it, however I have enjoyed driving it and it’s more fun than an ATV.”

1946 VEC CJ-2A Montrose, Ca eBay

• CATEGORIES: CJ-2A This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

This is a project and is apart.  The images show the jeep prior to disassembly.

“This is a project vehicle, currently in pieces on rolling chassis. Rare early transition CJ, #6,639 off the assembly line. Has steering column mounted gear shift, only the first 20,000 CJ’s had this. Also, pioneer tool body indents carried over from the military Jeeps and eliminated shortly after this serial #. The Jeep is 85% complete with original equipment including 3 of the original Goodyear tires. Missing items are back seat (if it came with one), combo coil/ignition switch that was under the dash on early CJ’s, original NACO tail light, gas tank, side mirror and top bows. I think it has an original early style under dash heater (in a box?) …”

UPDATE: **SOLD** Was on eBay.

This looks like it will make a good restoration project.

“I have a early 46 column shift with tool indents. It also has rear pto, hydrolics, new green hitch, solid disc wheels, front bumper weight, govoner, 26,654 original miles, very little rust, few dents and dings, all numbers match up, 17463 serial number, windshield is the only thing that is rusted bad. This jeep came from factory with all of the bells and whistles. bought it 5 years ago to restore but dont have time to restore so need to sell.  I did tear it down quite a way, the motor, tranny, transfercase, have all been pulled out. The axles are still in place and have never been touched.  I took pictures of everything and kept every bolt, nut, washer and more. I also have pictures of everything i have done to date.
