Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. UPDATE: Wss $1400. **SOLD**
(08/31/2010) It runs. The best part is the odd top.
“1961 Willy. Still runs great. Original everything! Only 11,000 original miles!!! Needs a little tender loving care but a great vehicle. Just got it registered. I used to use it around the ranch but I have no need for it anymore. Asking $1400.”
HOG spotted this nice looking CJ-5, though the rear end is a little high.

Here’s an unusual CJ-5 body.
“Jeep CJ-5 body, Stretched 1 foot in the door. Floor and sides armored. Willy’s tail gate. Only $200 Or Best Offer.”
The surface of this body appears good. The windshield looks good. There might be some value here.

One day a while back I got an email from a new reader named Jan. She spotted a CJ-5 sitting in a field for $500 and had a question about the VIN# and the model. We solved the VIN question and then I learned more about how Jan acquired this Jeep.
Jan wrote, “I really didn’t buy it, just offered to get it off his farm. He had a sign on it for $500.00 or best offer. All my friends are laughing at me and indicating it’s the uglist thing they ever saw…… but I fell in love with it!”
After bartering for the Jeep, Jan managed to sell the plow locally, which meant she was actually up a few hundred dollars. However, the body was so bad she knew she had to replace it, so she located a fiberglass tub for cheap in Indiana. She has also found a local mechanic that verified the frame was in good condition and the engine should restore easily. So, hopefully, next spring Jan will be driving around in a “free” jeep. Congrats Jan!

There might be some good parts here. I’m pretty confident it isn’t a CJ-3B.

UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $1200.
Brett spotted this great find. It won’t stay in 3 gear (4 speed), but it sure looks like a great price. It appears the interior has been rhino lined, the brakes have been upgraded to power brakes, and it needs a bumper.
“1963 Jeep CJ-5, 307 Chev V8 with headers. Engine runs good. 4 speed transmission that does not want to stay in 3rd gear. Engine has so much power that I don’t miss 3rd at all. Transfer case / 4 wheel drive all work. Brand new steering box. Would pass inspection except needs emergency brake handle / cable, and new windshield. Dana 44 rear, Dana 25 front. If interested please call for additional info / pictures. Thanks”
Here’s a potential parts CJ-5.
“I bought this just for the plow set up and am now re-selling the truck. No title but will give bill of sale. You can get a title for it threw a Antique mag. Engine cranks over, frame is solid, all drive train is there. Body is very rough. Comes with 3 hard doors, top is very good. Will trade for Jeep Cherokee with 4.0, Wrangler, Cj 7, 79 and older Ford 4×4 pick up. PLOW DOES NOT GO WITH IT.”
