Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. “1948 Willys Model CJ-2A Jeep — older (1991) restoration by Willy’s of Minneapolis, MN costing $10,000 (have receipts showing complete mechanical rebuild and repaint). I am told the Jeep originally came from a North Dakota farm. It has the original tub which is very solid with no evidence of rust or major bodywork. Cosmetically, the Jeep is ‘parade’ ready; it’s not a show vehicle. The paint shows very well and has a few chips and scratches here and there. It is very clean from top to bottom. Mechanically, this jeep is very tight and everything works as it should. It starts, runs, and drives great — like it did in 1948.
Recently, the tires, brakes, shocks and springs have been renewed all around. It was converted to 12 volt with an alternator for ease of charging. When this conversion was made, they removed the oil filter assembly. I have a new replacement assembly from Walck’s that goes with the purchase as well as owners and parts manuals. There are no leaks, but a drip or two will show up on the floor after sitting for a time. The Jeep does not come with top bows or canvas top.”

It has some issues, but does have a rear PTO (missing shaft). Looks very restorable.

The step area has been modified, but it looks like pretty clean work.

This looks in good shape. The pics show a battery missing.
“Comes with a bunch of accessories bought over the years at the Hershey swap meet and various other place. The engine has been completely rebuilt by the owner (among other things), who happens to rebuild engines for a living so you know it’s been done right. It’s been garaged for many years and has had a recent paint job, though there are some spots places where retouching might be required. It runs and can be demonstrated that it drives fine.”
The seller believes the jeep with the hardtop is a MB, but I don’t see it.
“I have 2 willys jeeps, one is a 1946 cj2a willys with a 225 dauntless v-6 out of a newer cj5, needs to be restored, the other is a 1945 mb willys, came from Colorado and has original steel hardtop made by Rawson-Koenig, heater and a original engine that has been in pieces for a lot of years. “1948 Willys CJ2A all Iowa barn find Missouri title. Jeep has been sitting for 30 years so its not up and running but all original and complete. Was going to be a rebuild project but I only have room for one of the two I have.”
