Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. To keep with our recent front loader theme, Steve sent me some pics of what I’ll call a ‘custom’ loader (at least, I think it’s a one-off) mounted on the front of an old flattie. Don’t try this at home! Please! This was sold at an auction in Ames, Iowa a few years back.

Probably not much value here, but I’m sure it was fun in it’s day.

“For Sale – 1946 Willy’s CJ-2A Jeep. I bought this Jeep years ago with the intention of doing a slight resto-mod on it. I came to realize over the past year that don’t have the money or time to do this correctly…. I’ve recently put on a Rancho 3 inch suspension lift, with a spring over. At the same time, I put on Spiderco ¾ wheel spacers on all four wheels Also recently replaced were the Solex carburetor and an restored the fuel pump back to the original style glass bowl type. The transmission on the jeep was re-built about 3 years ago (approx 3000 miles since rebuild) Runs and drives, there is an issue with the passenger side rear wheel cylinder leaking a little bit, but the replacement is only like $15 from www.Jeepdoc.com …. Asking $1500 for the Jeep, serious inquiries only please.”

This would make a great restoration project.
“This has been my elderly fathers Jeep for many years. There is no rust, as any sign of rust was replaced with new metal. It has a 1960’s Buick V6 conversion. The motor has few miles since a complete overhaul. The jeep runs and drives great. It also has new tires with very few miles as well. The jeep was only driven around a small town on nice days, and always stored in winter months since his ownership. The price is $3,500 and is pretty firm. UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $2500. It’s been for sale since June. There are more pictures now and it looks pretty good.
“1948 Willys Jeep 4 x 4, CJ 2A Body, Exterior is white in color, Interior is black, original 4 cylinder engine, Mileage 61409, Gas gauge does not work, Jeep runs good and you can test drive it and drive it home if you purchase this. Jeep has off road tires and it also has another full set of what seems to be original Ford rims with tires, tires are not original but all hold air. Jeep comes with vehicle cover that was custom made to fit. Does not have a hard or soft top, Equiped with roll bar. Passenger side windshield is cracked.”

This jeep has its engine out and apart.

This might not be a bad price. I think it depends on exactly what the herculiner on the inside is covering.

There’s a good deal of junk here, but the opening bid is only $195, so maybe there’s some value. I can see there’s the column shift parts at the very least.

I got a couple problems with this jeep. The seller claims the jeep has a “Frame Up Full Restoration”, however given the jeep has no engine or engine related parts, the use of the term full is pretty innaccurate. Clearly, there’s been no restoration from the frame downward, as the U bolts are rusted, the shocks are greasy, etc. Also, check out the roll cage; there isn’t even an attempt to place a plate underneath the fiberglass body to sandwich the body at the very least, let alone a proper attempt to tie the roll cage into the frame. A stock buick 225 engine is rated at about 150 – 160 hp, not 175hp. The paint job does look very nice and their appear to be a number of other new parts as well. The opening bid price is $3995.
