Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. This looks good for a $1500 running jeep. I’d drop in a battery and starter before buying though.
“1948 Willys Jeep CJ2A,the Jeep will need a new starter,a battery to make it road worthy. The engine is in great shape, the tranny and the 4×4 are in great shape,the brakes system is in good shape,the jeep has new military tires size 16″,the steering system is not original and the tub will need some welding,but it is drivable as it is.”

Two jeeps for one price. The jeep pictured looks pretty stock and the body appears fairly straight.
“1948 and 1947 willys jeeps as a pair. there is enough parts to build one whole jeep. the 48 is the good one with a reworked body in very good shape and good running gear, one engine is cracked and the other turns over good. I think the body on this looks in very good shape. It looks like with some polish, the paint might be in pretty good shape underneath all that dust.
“1947 CJ2 Jeep 4 cylinder. 4 wheel drive, high and low transmission. Runs and drives great. Mechanics in working order. Converted to a 12 vikt. Body in good to great condition, no major rust. Under carriage/ frame in good shape. Inside is very solid, seats are nice, most of the gauges work. This Jeep is ready to drive and have fun in. But doesn’t have a battery in it currently….”

There’s been a bunch of good mods to this jeep. Based on this gear calculator, to reach 65 mph, the engine would be more in the 3300 rpm range.

“1947 Willys (Project Vehicle)with clear title. This would be a great project vehicle for someone that has the time, I don’t. I have had this in storage sense 1977 (last time it ran). It has a V6 engine that only had about 5K miles on it before going into storage. The rest of the power train is original 3speed, transfer case, etc. How ever at the moment I’m not able to turn the crank over by hand? It has been stored in a few locations, one garage having leaks. There for it also has its rust problems. I know it also needs a new brakeing system, mufflers, and windsheld, as well. E-mail or call 253 921-2153”

This jeep has a few older upgrades. It probably needs some work.

For $1600, this looks like it might be a pretty good deal.

I include this jeep as it’s a rare example, in my opinion, of a DJ-3A with a tailgate. I’ve heard these existed, but hadn’t had picture proof until I saw this one. The thing that clued me in was the large speedometer. Once I saw that, I went back and read the description.
“For Sale is my 1955-1964 DJ3A/CJ2A/CJ3A combo Jeep that I use on my Farm for general weekly transportation over the last several years. Jeep is stored inside my barn at all times on my farm. If you are looking for a show vehicle with matching numbers this is not the ride for you. However, if you are looking for a good solid original Willys flat fender Jeep driver for general use, read on. All body parts except the tool box are original Willys manufacture. Body tub, fenders, hood, tailgate, and front grill are original DJ3A that have had a paint job using Mil Standard Sherwin Williams OD CARC paint. Body tub is solid as the DJ3A had a full hard top which protected it from the normal weather related rust experienced by most soft top Willys vehicles…..”
Here’s a running flatfender that appears in good shape. The engine doesn’t look like much. Good looking roll cage, though I prefer bars on the outer edges between the loops rather than just in the center. If you have ever been jeeping in a tight spot and had the roll cage bar bump along a tree, you’ll know what I mean. It’s too easy to catch a tree inbetween the two loops.
