Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. (07/05/2016) “47 Willys Jeep with Plymouth 318, Warn OD, rebuilt both drive lines, good tires – runs great. I have a lot more info on the various parts that make up this vehicle and will provide via email if interested. I’ve owned this Jeep since 1986 but just don’t use it anymore. It needs to go to the right person that wants to give it a new paint job, and drop the transmission and transfer case to replace a leaky gasket – and get it back into the dunes or other trails. This Jeep has a lot of power and needs to be driven by someone with plenty of off-road experience. It’s not insured, so I’ll test drive it.

Has original flat L head 4 cylinder has been overhauled 15 years ago and has been sitting since but runs and drives.
Needs wheel cylinders and the clutch adjusted.

Has been converted to 12v with turn signals.

Paul Barry shared these images of an early CJ-2A for sale from last week. The VIN and the body number are nearly 10,000#s apart (VIN is 38xxx, body 28xxx), which made me wonder if this was originally two different jeeps.

“This is a 1947 Willys Jeep.
It comes with a cover to protect the beautiful 2 year old red paint job.
I am selling this for a friend whose husband passed away and was restoring it– (about 90-95% restored).
4 wheel drive, 4 speed (w/PTO), GM small block V8 – 283 engine (not the original engine but runs well).
Battery 2-3 yrs old
This is a great buy at $5,999.”
Runs, but is missing a title.
“I have a complete and running all original 1948 Willys CJ2a. The title is missing, I originally bought this Willys for parts, after getting it home and tinkering with it I realized it is far too complete/original to pull pieces off of it for another project. With that said, I do not have time for two projects, therefore, regretfully, I am going to part ways with this one. I bought this jeep without a title for parts only. The frame is solid, it was broken when I bought the jeep, I have since patched it, changed the oil, put in a new battery, points and condenser and by ‘rigging’ the wiring a little and got the jeep running, which obviously mean the engine is free and seemingly decent condition for its age.
I do not know much about the jeep. By deciphering its serial number I was able to realize it is a late 48′ year jeep. Other than that, not much is known, all original equipment seems to be there in entirety. The jeep will need brakes all around, the access port cover in the floor is missing, a new wiring harness is needed, unless your better with wiring that I am, it will also need a radiator fan shroud, it does have both seat frames and the radiator cap which are not present in the photos. It is also apparent someone made an attempt at repairing the sheetmetal once before and its not great, but this is a very solid start, better than most you will find. Be clear, I don’t need to sell this jeep, so do not email me asking for my bottom dollar, if you come in person, we can talk, I will negotiate but only in person, otherwise, please don’t waste my time.”

“1947 Willys Jeep CJ2A Military Restoration
1947 painted to resemble an old military version. It was a little more complicated and expensive than I thought but it will last a long time now and be alot of fun for the kids for years to come.
I replaced the brakes from the master cylinder, lines to brake cylinders and replaced the pads and two drums, plus the emergency brake. New shocks, tires (original WWII bi-directional), a new bell housing, clutch plate, new radiator, hoses, belts and seats. We degreased the thing 3 times before I had it sand blasted and painted. Restored in 2001 and pretty much garage parked since. Engine is original and in pretty good shape.
