Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. I haven’t seen many dually CJ-5s.
“1969 CJ-5 Jeep Dually, 4cyl, 3sp unit with a dana 70 rearend. Jeep originally had a trencher unit mounted to it. The trencher is long gone, sorry. Jeep has low mileage and runs well. New rebuilt carb, recent tires, new battery, new brakes (currently a little spongy, will bleed before auctins end), heater(aftermarket), wiring harness (painless), etc. Not perfect, but a nice driver or property/Town vehicle. It has a clear VT registration and has been on the road recently. Body in very good condition, some small dents, coarse body work and paint. Frame is straight and clean and retains its full side plate reinforcements from the trencher. Drivetrain all sounds and looks good with a few leaks. Motor runs well, but smokes on start up and a little bit when running …”
This is a good looking CJ — must be those rims. Sounds like price is negotiable, partly due to a possibly bad bearing up front.
“1961 Jeep Willys CJ5 for sale. 221cu in V6. 4 speed Muncie transmission. Brand new Warn Overdrive. Low gears-great for off-roading. 4×4 works well. In 4×4 low you could get out and walk next to it. There is some noise from the front transmission bearing. Mechanic told me it’s about $500 to fix. I will take this in to consideration when negotiating price. Motor is strong. Speedo stopped working about 300 miles ago-cable broke. Comes with bikini top, half doors, full soft top, full soft doors. Has original bumper tow hitch and a Warn 1000 winch on the bumper. Tires are in good shape w/ spare on back. Carburator recently rebuilt. New radiator/thermostat/intake manifold gaskets/head gaskets. Just needs a little t.l.c. Make me an offer. Come test drive it. It appears this has swivel seats? I’m not sure why this has the wide fenders on the back unless it’s got new running gear from some vehicle.

This has a cool old top. Give this a paint job and it could be a great old jeep.

Rick asked me to post these pics of his 1955 CJ-5 that he has put up for sale. The VIN is 5754811227. Rick also sent me a couple of rebuilt postal jeeps that I’ll highlight tomorrow.
He wrote, “1955 Willys CJ5 completely restored 2 years ago. Everything is new or rebuilt. All original except seats, and carb & air cleaner. I have the originals and they are perfect condition. Asking $6000.00, or trade for a flat fender in good condition. Trade should be of equal value, or buyer willing to pay difference in value. This Jeep is ready to go. Has tow bar, and 5000 pound winch with in cab controls. Price includes snow blade and bed extension. She is street legal, and will pass state inspections. Call Rick with any questions. “IT DOES NOT HAVE POWER STEERING, BUT IT IS MANAGEABLE EVEN LOADED WITH GUYS AND GEAR. I HAVE USED A LOT OF HI RACK JEEPS AND THIS IS THE BEST ONE I HAVE OPERATED. IT IS JUST BUILT RIGHT. IT IS COMFORTABLE AND THE PERFECT SIZE. THE TOP HOLDS 2 BIG GUYS, FOUR GUNS AND EXTRA STORAGE. THE QUAIL RACK HOLDS 2 GUYS AND 2 GUNS. THERE IS A BASKET IN THE MIDDLE FOR SHELLS OR A COOLER. THE TITLE IS NOT TRANSFERRED INTO MY NAME,IT IS THE ORIGINAL 78 TITLE, BUT HAS BEEN SIGNED BY PREVIOUS SELLER. I DID NOT BOTHER TRANSFERRING INTO MY NAME BECAUSE I HAD NO INTEREST IN PUTTING IT ON THE ROAD. IT WOULD TAKE SOME TIME TO GET THE TITLE STRAIT. TWO BILLS OF SALES WILL BE INCLUDED. The 43k on the speedometer looks about right. This might be a good price.
