A reader asked me to look at a CJ-5 he was interested in purchasing. So, I spent a little time reviewing the sale of CJ-5s and was surprised to see how many are for sale and how many great deals are out there. At the beginning of 2007 I spent January and February looking for good prices on CJ-5s, so I got a pretty good idea of the market then; It’s just amazing the change 2 years later. Here’s a good example.
“Red CJ5 4X4 Jeep. Good condition. Full roll cage. Tilt steering wheel. Chevy sm. block. 4-sp. stick. 2″ lift with 31″ tires. After market wheels. Body is in Great shape. Call for more info. Possible trade for ??? but NO FORDS. I’m a chevy guy. OR Toyota 4 runner. Call Todd at 503-740-7396 or 360-835-5467”
The CJ-5 comes with a warn overdrive, a ford-top loader, a ford 289, a full cage and a set of hurricane aluminum 10″ rims. $1500 isn’t a bad price for that combo + the rest of the parts.
The FC-150 looks pretty good as well for $1500, if it comes with some of the missing parts.
“One 1959 Willys CJ5 with Ford 289 and Ford top loader four speed, Warn overdrive, starts and runs good, original 5:38 gears and nine inch brakes,
will include parts for changing to 11 inch brakes. $1500.00 cash O.B.O. One 1959 Willys FC 150 Forward Control with Ford 289, Jeep transmission and transfer case, original 5:38 gears and 11 inch brakes. was never finished. Will come with extra FC 150 parts. $1500.00 cash O.B.O.”
UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $1500
This seems a great price for a good looking CJ-5.
“61 willys jeep 2” lift rebuilt 225 v6 @ transmission, 8000 lb. pto winch $1500.00 “
While looking up transmissions for the T-98 post, I came across a website that has CJ-5 decals you can purchase. The website offers VIN Stickers, Data plate decals, Tailgate decals, and more. The website carries a wide variety of data stickers. Check it out.
If I wanted to use a sticker, the one to the right would work perfectly, even though it’s designed for a “3 speed Auto D300 Twin”.
This looks like a nice cage. The body looks in pretty good shape as well. Includes a front clip as well.
“1970’s jeep tub and front clip with newer frame. full cage and windsheild. Sorry no title. Was race jeep at one time. Great project has not been cut up. Please phone calls only!!!!!!!!!!! No email axcess. (509) 990-2730 front clip is sanded and ready to paint.”
It appears the front end is slightly f&*$ed up. I’m pretty sure those front wheels should be going the same direction. If you have a front end, this one might be worth snatching up as the seller sounds like they might be will to deal to get rid of it. Maybe it’s just a broken tierod? It appears that might even be a terra tire on the front left.
“I’m selling a 55 Willys. I bought it for 1200 I don’t have the time or the money to fix it. I need to sell fast. any question please call me 360-318-5755 1200 obo”
There’s a small chance this is a CJ-3B rather than a CJ-5. No pics shown.
“Jeep is solid and runs strong, has a 350 chevy motor with a 4 bolt main, size 31 tires like new, new brakes upgraded from 9 inch to 11 inch(cost 800.00), new rag top, snow plow with mounting bracket for the jeep, great for a hunting camp or for play, must sell need room for other toys. 570-778-1008”
I’m not sure what all is combined to make this flattie. The good news is that the body appears to be in excellent condition. Lots of large pics on the Ad allow for close inspection. The seller notes that this a currently a 2wd vehicle, though in one image it looks like there is a front pumpking visible.
“4.3 chevy v6, 700r trans, tilt steering wheel. 2 wheel drive. have parts to make 4×4. $2900 obo. (714)970-8704”
Brian sent in this find. He notes that CJ-5s like this in the midwest are hard to find without being plagued with rust. As Brian note, it’s also likely to have the offset 30 spline axles.
“1971 CJ5 V-6 MOTOR 3 SPEED TRAN MILES UNKNOWN SPEEDO CABLE BROKE AT THE SIDE OF TRANS, THESE ARE THE WORKING ITEMS ON THE JEEP, FUEL GUAGE,LIGHTS,WIPERS SLOW SPEED AND FAST, HEAT LOW AND HIGH, TURN SIGNALS, LOW AND HIGH BEAM LIGHTS, WHATS THE BAD, CRACK IN WINSHEILD SPEEDO CABLE THATS IT. WHATS BEEN DONE TO IT WHILE I HAD IT, SANDED TO RIDE SOME RUST FULLY PRIMED AND PAINTED, ITS NOT A PERFECT PAINT JOB, BUT LOOKS GOOD AND CLEAN….”
