Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. A wagon with a family history.
“Recent restoration. The goal was to keep it looking original while upgrading it to be a more modern driver. It is comfortable to drive on the freeway now.
This has been in my family since 1962 when my Dad bought it as a nearly new vehicle. I still have the title from then. As a result, this Jeep is all there right down to the original oak floor slats and owners manual. I learned to drive in this Jeep. It has never been in an accident. I have a pile of records, receipts and other stuff for it.
Before the restoration it had 153,168 miles on it. There are only a bit over 3,700 miles on it since.
302 V8 (balanced and blueprinted) with C4 automatic
Power front disc brakes
Saginaw steering
New rear axle and brakes (9″ rear end with positrac)
Newer front axle with Warn hubs
Custom 25 gal fuel tank
Rewired including modern fuse panel
Electric wipers
3rd brake light mounted high like newer cars
All new rubber (windows, etc)
New upholstery (all but front seats are original)
New radial tires
Original gauges look an work great

This is a 1957 Willys Jeep Civil Defense Panel Truck. This is the RAREST of all the
“Specialty Trucks” Willys made over the years. Only 14 of these were ever made, under
10 of these are still in existence. This truck has under 20K miles, is 4WD & in excellent
condition. Serial # verifies this special build, vehicle has spent most of its life garaged.
