Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. The seller was unsure what model this was, but I’d guess based on the body and grille that this is a late 1946-early 47 CJ-2A.

“Part of an estate so I know very little about it. It was kept under a tarp but the body is pretty rusty. Floors are the worst. Southern vehicle so underside is good. Photos tell the story. I don’t know much but will answer any questions I can. North Alabama”

Bill shared this rusty GPW. The frame has rot, too.
“1942 Ford GPW Serial Number 8727, DOD 3-19-42. Early Script GPW with flat top grill. Has the first Ford frame with squared front frame horns that are in very good condition. GPW Engine Serial number GPW 12436 stuck and need rebuilding. The Jeep is title is under then engine #. The jeep has a fully transferable Bonded Title in my name. This GPW will need a full restoration has rust in typical areas like the shovel/axe area, fuel tank sump and on the passenger side step. Floors only have a couple of spots of rust through but have a significant amount of pitting. I’m not sure if that can be repaired. Surprisingly the hat channels are solid. The frame is straight but has rust through in 3 spots that will need to be repaired. Has allot of F script parts to includeDriver and Passenger seats Early Scalloped AxelsTransmission Shifter Cover Early Oil DipstickRear Top Bow BracketsBumperettes Ax Swivel BracketHood HingeRadiatorEarly Ford Glove Box Door”
These might be a set of Renegade rims.

“I have a set of 4 Renegade rims. 5×5.5” bolt pattern. I’m not sure, but I believe these are original to the 72-75 renegades, but will fit any CJ.
They are all stamped “FORGED” on the back side. Also a number is found stamped on each rim. 3 have the number 3153655, and 1 has the number 3153542. These numbers don’t mean much to me, but they may to someone.
These are in really nice shape with no damage and should look like new with a good polishing. $400 for the set. Would consider shipping at your expense, but pickup in Newtown CT preferred.”

“Rare “Early Civilian” 1946 Willy Jeep CJ-2A. Mostly stock with numerous original or new reproduction parts. Too much to list in new parts and restoration. This baby is a head-turner and car-show award winner. 3-speed plus high-low transfer case, 4WD with lockout hubs. Clean title. Original mileage is unknown”
