“Very cool Willy’s Jeep all original drivetrain does not run. It looks like the cowl and windshield were grafted from a Willy’s wagon, and the steel cab is all one piece. Probably not a prototype vehicle or a relative to the CJ4, but a cool “missing link” CJ2a built with awesome craftsmanship 40+ years ago. Possibly a non-US made Jeep wagonette. Suicide doors latch. Great patina. This will be the coolest Jeep at Easter Jeep safari.”

“I have too many projects and not enough time or money to finish them, so unfortunately I may have to let this one go.

This is a 1946 CJ2A Willy’s Jeep. It has a dauntless 225 v6 motor and the original 3 speed transmission and twin stick transfer case. It runs, drives, and stops. The motor has newer plugs and wires and all gauges work. The body is all original and has minimal rust, no holes in the frame or body. It also has the original vin tag and original data plates on the dash which is very hard to find.

Longtime public servant and former WWII veteran Ken Hechler served President Harry S. Truman, held the position as West Virginia’s Secretary of State, and represented West Virginia in Congress for several terms. Early in his Secretary of State run he began using a red CJ-5 as his office. Over the years he went through 6 jeeps.

Over the years Ken wrote multiple books. His earliest was Bridge at Remagen: A Story of World War II. He went on to write additional books, articles and other works. Eventually, Carter Taylor Seaton wrote a book about him called The Rebel in the Red Jeep: Ken Hechler’s Life in West Virginia Politics. Here are a few pics:

“1961-1964 FJ3 Jeep Fleetvan for sale, not sure of exact year. No title, bill of sale only. This is the right hand, stand and drive model. Not sure the last time I saw one for sale, as these are getting very hard to find. A true piece of Americana. Body is in good shape with only one area of rust (just past the driver’s door, near the bottom). All original drivetrain, not sure if it runs as it has been sitting since the 80’s. Originally from Colorado, just arrived in PA. Missing the steering wheel, and back two wheels are not original.”
