Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. UPDATE: It turns out that this one, first listed in 2016, is not the one that popped up for sale in Danvers in 2017 at almost the same price. A closer inspection revealed the latter had different plates and was one year off. So, I’ve updated this post as sold.
“COMING OUT OF WINTER STORAGE SOON . This is a very well preserved and solid unrestored vehicle that appears to have spent most of it’s life in the South. It has new springs, shocks and wiring making it a solid feeling and comfortable driver. The stock 4 cylinder engine is quiet and smooth running. There are chips and scratches in an older repaint, showing natural patina for it’s age.
If you know these vehicles you know there are a number of places they commonly rusted; floors, rockers, tailgate, tailgate hinges and around the rear wheel wells. All these areas are unusually rust free except for a small patch under your heel at the accelerator. Also, there is an unusual rust line in the back just under the roof gutter due to a hole in the gutter. Been assured by two body men this is an easy simple fix. “I have lost the ability to finish my Jeep Project. It has a custom frame, that is significantly stronger than the the factory original. The jeep comes with the following:
– Brand New In Box Suspension Kit (cost $600)
– Fiberglass Flat Fender Tub with Hood, fenders and tailgate
– Factory Dana 27 Front with 5.38:1 gears
– Factory Dana 44 Rear with 5.38:1 gears
– T-90 transmission with Dana 18 T-case
– Novak Adapter for T-90 to Ford 2.3L engine
– Ford 2.3L fuel injected 8 plug engine
– 7 wheels
The jeep is currently disassembled, but these parts are worth more than the asking price. Text or email if interested. Asking $1100 obo.”
There seller is clear about what is wrong with it.
“For sale is a 1946 CJ-2A Jeep S/N 64484. Jeep is in running condition and is used as an aircraft tug on a daily basis. It is a 1946 so there are many things wrong with it.
Some of the items to note are:
– rust throughout jeep
-lights throughout are intermittent in operation or not working
– no gas cap
– engine burns oil
– brakes seem stiff
– needs tires
– leaks oil
The registration is available and we have an app for replacement title. It comes with the service manual and side door frames (see picture).
We are selling as is. We highly recommend a visual inspection of the jeep prior to purchase. All sales are final. Delivery possible. Call for delivery quote.”

Other than the motor its the stock running gear.
Turns lots of heads and is a joy to drive or 4×4… makes my 4runner seem like its 2 wheel drive.
