Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. Let’s end the year on this cheery note. This article discussed the usefulness of jeeps following atomic bomb attacks and other, more natural disasters. It filled two pages of the June 1955 issue of Willys News. Given the ‘blast’ artistry in the middle of the article, it didn’t reformat for the web as easily as most articles.
One more Santa post. Jalopnik posted this rendition of Santa driving a ‘jeep’ that was painted by Australian James Higgins Quirk in the 1950s. The original image is part of a digital collection at the Museum Victoria.

Here’s a heart warming story of a boy, a girl, a jeep and a Merry Christmas!
Mike writes, I wanted to take the time to share with you my Christmas present from my girlfriend. She arranged to have a local artist put together a liquor/wine bar made from the back end of a 49′ Willys. Don’t worry, the jeep was beyond repair. This bar is catered towards my specific hobbies such as my 46′ Willys, my love for Scotch, plus a few other things. I think she’s a keeper!!! Both my girlfriend and the bar!
Joe Snodgrass (aka Joe from Mesa) was visiting his folks for the holidays and had a chance to go through some old albums of his father’s and grandfather’s. He found a few jeeps.
My Dad (CPL John W. Snodgrass) served in Kobe Japan as part of the Army of Occupation. This and the next two pics were taken in Kobe in 1947.

My Grandfather (Walter H. Snodgrass) served in the Philippines during WWII. Here’s a pic of LT Hitchcock, whom my grandfather knew from Ft. McDowell (Angel Island, in SF Bay), that he ran into there after the invasion.

“I’ve come across hard times, and need to sell/trade my 1949 Willys Wagon.
It’s in very good shape for its age, and is 99% original, with a few upgrades.
I don’t really really want to throw a price out, but will say I could use a strong running full size truck or van, looks aren’t as important. Preferably a manual trans., and 4 wheel drive. Something that will tow a small household, and something ready to drive across country right now, with no major problems. I’m willing to trade outright, or throw in some cash.”

Non-running.
“1947 CJ2A Willys Jeep. Jeep appears to be all original but will need some work. This old Willys spent most if not all of it’s life on a cattle ranch above Springville, CA. It has the original L134 flathead motor and the motor is free but I haven’t tried to start it. Most of the floor forward of the cargo area is rusted out and will have to be replaced. The original square cornered windshield with the push out two part center glass is included but that also needs some work.”
