Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. (12/16/2012) Randy dropped by to see this Lefty. He reports it runs well and does not smoke, but he didn’t test drive it. The floors have been patched and the hat channels and tool box floor are pretty gone.
“This 1948 CJ2A Willys is all original except for seats and wheels. We have the original seats, but need to be upholstered. Engine, transmission and transfer case rebuilt last winter, new rear end installed also. At that time added power steering, have original steering box and shaft, if wanting to go back to original. New battery. Starts and runs good, does not use oil. Original identification plate and transmission/transfer case diagram.
Clear Idaho title.”

“1948 CJ2A with title $2100.00 Runs and drives fine. 2nd/3rd synchros are out, but I will include a working transmission/tcase in sale. Rebuild kits are available if you’d prefer to just rebuild the transmission. 6v system in place. Carter model WO carb. Superwinch aftermarket hubs.”

“The jeep has been a project for me and ive never really finished it. it is complete and running. the engine burns oil however.
2 months ago i had the original radiator recored and bought 4 new correct tires. the only unoriginal part on the jeep is the right fender which is a replacement. i have an original fender if wanted. i can provide pictures on request by email. the tub is original and in great shape. Clean Md title.”

(05/24/2012) The pictures suggest it is a bit rough.
“Here’s a 1952 Flat fender M38 Willys, It’s an original, been used on a ranch to service spinklers and run all over the place, it’s never been restored or anything like that, it runs good –the transfer case has a issue and I picked up another one for it and started to change it out and hurt my back doing something else and now I can not work on something like this for a while. We are now moving and I can take it with us or sell it. I have all the paper work and the “pink slip”.

(11/28/2012) This includes two engines. It’s a project.
“This Jeep is all apart, body is just setting on frame, frame and diffs have been cleaned up and gone through, has new brake lines that need to be put on, all tires in great shape, body needs some repair work but it’s not bad, has two engines both are F head engines, the one from the Jeep is 85% redone but should be checked from setting, the other engine is complete but is for parts. Please e-mail or call with any questions”
UPDATE: Bob notes the jeep is the museum next to the ship and not inside the ship.
Bob took time during his visit to Alabama to visit the USS Alabama Memorial Park in Mobile, Alabama. It turns out there’s a jeep in the museum next to this old fighter. If you have time, you might want to check out this unique opportunity to explore a battleship.
