UPDATE:  This was priced at $3000.  **Status Unknown**

(07/10/2012) This has been owned by the family since new. No title.  The wood under the wheels suggests this family had taken good care of this jeep.

“I have for sale a 1948 Willys jeep CJ2a. Jeep was running last summer. It will need a new water and fuel pump. Also will need a battery and the lighting wired. Chassis, frame and body all stripped and repainted. All new metal was welded in where needed. Axles and trans gone through and have fresh fluids. Whole brake system was gone through. New master cylinder, lines etc. Have some extra parts that go with it. There is no title. It was lost years ago. I do have the vin number and it is clean. Jeep has been in the family since new..”

The King of Jeeps: Berg’s Truck and Parts Co., Inc

UPDATE: Brochure sold on eBay.

I spotted this 1960 Catalog from Berg’s Truck and Parts Company tonight.  Hyman Berg, a Ukrainian by emigre,  was possibly the first distributor of Willys Parts (though I have no information that definitively backs this claim).  Mr. Berg founded the international truck and jeep parts company in the 1940s. In the 1950s, he founded Amsco Parts Co. Both were at 1608 S. Wabash, Chicago, Illinois.  Apparently, JC Whitneys was right down the street from Bergs for some period of time.  According to Berg’s grandson, the family was immersed in Marketing for decades, hence the decision by Hy to be known as the “King of Jeeps”.

In addition, as suggested by this G503 thread, Hy sold Sears Jeep parts and also sold Jeep parts to the Phillipines.  He bought some early prototype jeeps and housed them at this same location, which is where this photograph was taken.  There is more information about Berg here, too, from G503.

Hyman Berg died in 1986 at the age of 75.

The CJ-3B Page has a cover of a 1958 Catalog.

This might be worth a look.

“1953 flat fender willys jeep # 453 GB1. Clear title. Jeep hasn’t been driven in many years but it ran when parked in covered carport. The starter disengages as soon as it tries to start like the starter solenoid needs to be replaced. It needs a battery also. Clear title in hand.

Cash works best, I don’t need anything but I might trade if you had something I liked? 559 696 7582”

UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $1200.

I’m a little surprised the transfer case levers aren’t visible in the picture of the dash.  Maybe they were shoved backward with the updated motor.

“cool 1948 CJ2A the first series of civilian jeeps, we have owned her for 20 year, was a daily driver, until we built a house and needed a pickup, so she was retired about 10 years ago, IT IS ON NON OP !! engine not running, probably from sitting , has original trans and transfer case, and has the f head engine , brakes still work, has some rust, but nothing that cant be fixed, must sell , asking $1200.00”

The front frame horns and bumper look pretty good as does the rest of the jeep.  The rolling chassis has value, too.

“Restorers dream with plenty of extra parts. I just started on this soon after being retired but! took a job in LA. Wife wants her garage back.”

UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $2000

“Has some rust but not too bad for as old as it is. It would have been dust if it spent its life in Virginia. Could use a new tailgate because of rust. It has been in Texas since 1980 and california before that. Engine is a Chevy 350 and was a reman installed a few years ago. Has a Ford rear. Whats it need? A battery, rear wheel cylinders, master cylinder, and bled. Runs real strong, just wont stop. Hasn’t been driven much in years. Make an offer.”
