Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. The timing of these photos is fascinating, as early 1959 was the ending of the Cuban Revolution and the assumption of control of Cuba by Castro. Based on a few searches I just completed, it appears Fidel was a fan of jeeps and there are multiple references of him riding in a jeep.
And, in the last photo, that is Fidel himself.
Here’s a pic I’d like to get. After recieving the pics from Tim, I did a little research. Here is a video of an image of Fidel and Che Guerva posing in a Jeep in April of 1959. Unfortunately, I do not understand what the narrator is saying.

The pic shows four rims, but only 3 are 5 1/2 x 5 bolt pattern.
“15” by 7″ wide Ford bolt pattern Old style slot wheels ( made by Western) like the ones on Starsky and Hutch Torino or the old time drag car Willys of the day. These wheels were bought for another project that I sold and no longer need. The good: they are not cracked anywhere or have curb rash. The bad: three are 5 1/2″ bolt pattern , one is a 5″ .. I know I know this is goofy but i bought to go on a trike project and only needed two. Maybe you only need two or maybe you got a 5 1/2 laying around and need a 5″ because somewhere there is a set of three 5″ and one 5 1/2 ” we’ll make a deal to swap. I’ll also consider a trade on almost anything else — Old motorcycle”

For the price, there’s lots of mods (a list actually in the ad). It might be worth a look if you want a modded wagon.
“1951 Wagon, from Arizona, never seen salt!!!
Last year for single tail light, W5 Bar grill ,Brush Gard. Very little rust,has AZ plates/title. Was under coated when new. It’s now,starting to fall off, Revealing paint that is like new.
Under 100mi on 302, lower compression pistons,mild rv cam, hi volume oil pump, new custom made, 4 core radiator, 4×4, original 3 speed trans, Hi-Lo range transfer case work well. Tinted glass all around. replaced/added all leafs on spring over lift, including, hangers bushings, u bolts, new clutch/pressure/plate/throw out berring/resurfaced fly wheel. New head liner installed….”

Here’s another CJ-5/Flattie Body Merger. But, what really is unusual is that bumper.
“Too many projects, this one has to go! I bought this Willys last summer with intentions of rebuilding it. What was I thinking? I have way to many things going right now and feel overwhelmed. So, here is your chance to get a project that I believe will be worth doing.
The guy I bought it from said it was running when it was parked two summers ago and I believe him because they drove it flat and broke the bead on two tires and that is where they parked it. The jeep is complete as far as I can tell and body is in fair condition. It rolls freely, I towed it home over 40 miles with the tow bar that is on it. The engine also rolls freely, I can turn it by hand. It has an alternator so it has been converted to 12 volt. The transmission and transfer case shift just fine. The clutch pedal is stuck and the break pedal is hard to push, don’t know what the problem is there, sort of feels like it’s in the linkages.”
This is a very honestly photographed Jeep. The seller has been generous with closeup pics of problem areas.
“1946 Willys Jeep CJ2A. It has a clear New Mexico Title and the numbers on the data plates match the number on the title. The body is in what I consider to be rough shape with it’s share of rust in all the normal places, please see pictures. The jeep does run, I will re-install the gas tank if the jeep needs to be shipped. The rims are the stock 16 inch and are all in good shape, three of the tires are good, one of them is cracked from age and does leak air slowly. There are no seats at all. The Jeep still has the 6 volt system (brand new battery) I have not driven the jeep at all so not sure how all the running gear works. Everything seems to go in and out of gear. Buyer will have to arrange shipping or pick up the Jeep. I will be able to assist with loading. If you have any questions or would like more pictures of a specific area let me know. (12/20/09) There’s been a few mods to this.
“im selling a 1955 willy’s jeep cj3b, it has a buick 3.8, rebuilt last year. it has the original 3 spd. tran’s and transfer case, it also has dana 44’s with 538 gears, locked in the rear with a quick lock. i upgraded the clutch slave cyl. and brake cyl. to a 2000 jeep style. the body is very clean and all steel, i also added the seats. it runs great and will go almost anywhere.i also have a hard top and doors i have never had them on so i dont have a pic. if you like what you see or have any questions please dont e-mail having problems with it”

Here’s an interesting modification. A Willys modifie to simulate a Gas Attack. According to the details of the image, this image was taken at Geiger Field, Washington (which would be Spokane, Washington, if I’m not mistaken). “Officers and men are taught to be on the alert for a gas attack at any time. This jeep appears at unexpected places and sends out a charge of tear gas from the ingenious device attached to the muffler. Those in the vicinity, to protect themselves from the irritating gas, must be able to don their masks instantaneously.”
