Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. (06/17/2010) It sure looks like there is light rust in some of the corners, but that might be an optical illusion.
“I may regret selling this because I know I will not find another CJ3a in such original, virtually rust free, unmolested condition. This is a numbers matching 1950 Willys Jeep CJ3A with Power Take OFF (PTO) and Koenig hardtop. Almost everthing on the Jeep appears to be original. Even the seats, seat covers, and seat springs all look like the original ones to me. The body is very straight, and virtually rust free, having only surface rust. Floors are solid as well. The frame is perfect, no cut places, or damage anywhere. The hard top is in excellent condition. I started the Jeep a year ago and it ran very well with no smoking. I drove it around and shifted through the gears no problem. I changed the oil and filter, trans oil, T-case oil, and differential oils. It does need all new brakes, master cylinder, and wheel cylinders to be safe to drive. The rear two wheels are original wheels, but the front two are not, so it will need two original wheels, or wheels of your choice if you restore. This Jeep was owned by a farmer in Pacolet SC for 40+ years, and I was told it was stored up in a barn for that time. This would be a very easy restoration. Search the country over and you will not find a survivor like this one, in this condition.”

(09/30/2010) From the description, you wouldn’t know there’s been a serious modification to this jeep. I’ve seen something similar, but I don’t think it was this one.
“1948 Willys. original flathead 4 cylinder motor, manual tranny, 4X4, and power takeoff. Runs good and 4X4 and power takeoff works. Antique title. Came from South Dakota. ”

“This is a beautifully restored Willys CJ5. The following is a partial list of new items on a fresh restoration: Windshield frame and glass, wiring, horn and steering wheel, recored original radiator, seats for both front and back, headlights, tailights and housings, turn signal and column switches, waterpump, pulley and belt, stainless dual winshield wiper motors with blades, all gaskets are new, new Solex carb for trouble-free running, (original carb saved) all new brakes and cylinders, 5 new Grabber At tires, the list goes on and the receipts total way over the asking price. She runs and drives beautifully. The paint is gorgeous! This jeep was originally an M38 and I have most of the original parts including seat frames. You can’t buy a nice quadrunner at this price! Thanks for looking. My apologies to all that called last week. I was out of town and unable to show the vehicle. Please try again. I will trade for a Harley or older Brit bike. (10/06/2010) How about that crazy hood on the DJ? Also, note the front passenger wheel on the DJ is mounted backwards.

“1947 Willys Jeep. Original engine and running gear. Runs and drives, but will need some maintenance. 12 volt convertion. Body is in good condition with no rot. I bought it with a project in mind, drove it thru the summer of 2008, and it has been parked ever since. Its time to move on to other projects, so Im moving the Jeep along. I spent some time search for Jeeps in Museums today. I discovered that in 1996 a museum with some wwII jeeps closed and the jeeps were purchased and sent to Indiana. After a little searching, I am pretty sure these were bought by the National Automotive and Truck Museum of the United States (NATMUS), located in Auburn, Indiana. This appears to be a pretty sizeable museum with a great collection of both stock and modified vehicles.
Sorting through images at different sites, I did eventually find an image of a GP (to be published later) located at NATMUS. I sent them an email to see if I can get additional images and information (my emails to museums thus far have proven useless so far, with the exception of a gracious and quick response from the York Museum in PA).
One additional item I discovered while searching through some NATMUS images was this modified Willys Truck hidden in the background of a pic focused on the Popcorn Wagon (see pic to right). Fortunately, I could identify the website emblazoned on the windshield and, viola, I found some great pics of this vehicle to share.
This truck, called Silly Willy, was built by Wild Fire Manufacturing for 1st Attack (Jeffrey Cook is president of both companies). 1st Attack is a company that specializes in the development of offroad emergency vehicles. You might know Jeffrey Cook from his days as owner/driver of the Monster Truck War Wagon that toured nationally.
