Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. Here’s a very nicely restored CJ-5 just up the road from me.
“Body off restoration, epoxy primered all parts, 5 coats urethane paint (Omaha Orange). All excellent. When I purchased this vehicle it had 32k miles on it. It now shows 117 miles due to new Speedo cluster. Many new parts: New radiator, water pump, hoses and belts. Fuel system, charging system. Hi torque starter. New clutch, rebuilt transmission and T case with new emergency brake assembly and cable. T case, Tranny and axles filled with synthetic 70-90 gear lube. Complete exhaust system. (5) Toyo tires mounted on chrome wheels. New tinted windshield with 2 electric wipers. Engine is original (F134) and runs excellent. The body is original, and rust free. The following items are currently not installed on vehicle; Heater (needs new core, have all sheet metal parts but needs 3 new cable controls). Horn (haven’t been able to locate a stock horn). Wiring and relay are installed. 2 Doors and hardware (I have and go with vehicle.)” Many extra spare parts in boxes go with vehicle. This is a great driving/reliable jeep with original engine, transmission, T- case, axles, suspension and gearing.

I AM DOING A FRAME UP TOTAL RESTORATION ON ONE, AND I AM SELLING THE OTHER ONE, THESE VEHICLES ARE EXTREMELY RARE IN THIS CONDITION, YES THERE IS SOME LOWER BODY RUST, BUT THE MAIN BODY, THE FRAME, ORIGINAL MOTOR (SUPER HURRICAINE 6 CYLINDER) DRIVE TRANE, AND TRANSMISSION ARE COMPLEATLY INTACT. YOU CAN SEE MY VEHICLE DURING ITS CURRENT RESTORATION BECAUSE BOTH VEHICLES ARE AT THE SAME GARAGE. CLEAR TITLE AND VIN GO ALONG WITH IT”
I was looking up something for a reader when I stumbled upon these two webpages. One page documents some of the differences between very early MBs and later ones. The body appears to be a MB body.
“1942 Willys Jeep. It was bought as a project car and I have put many hours into it. It is getting very close to being done but I know longer have the time and more so I am moving to Nevada this weekend and I can’t take it with me. I have the original bumper and windshield as well as over $1500 in new and used parts that will go along with it. I also have a soft top for it. Please contact me ASAP if you are at all interested.”
I can’t tell if these are $2500/piece or both for $2500.

It sure looks like a project.
“CJ2A project. Body is very good condition for one this age. minor dings but needs a section under the tool box replaced. Has 15″ wheels on rolling frame but have 16″ on old tires for it. Very good grille, hood, windshield, fenders, and tailgate. Have an engine but it needs to be rebuilt. Frame has a transmission and transfer case already on it. No seats. Don’t have a title but have paper work for one after its rebuilt. Title was destroyed and the guy I got it from got all the paper work and went to WSP who told him it just needs to be inspected before a title can be issued. Other than seats have most everything needed to put it together. Radiator should be checked but is there. Might consider something interesting in trade. I like gas station items or could use landscaping and not just the labor. I have a pathway and retaining wall that need to be made.”
