Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. I’ve been in the garage all evening swapping leaves on my rear springs to get the rear end to sit at the right height. After several swaps I finally got the body to a level spot. Whew.
I was on my way to Jalopy Jungle (got some new springs — but that write-up must wait) in Nampa when I passed by this CJ-5 sitting outside an auto salvage shop in Meridian. As soon as I saw it, I made a quick u-turn and snapped some pics. The CJ-5 itself appears in stock condition with a solid body and no engine. There was no for sale sign and am not sure what it being done to it.
The rear seat itself it something I’ve never seen. The tail gate still works and there is storage area under the back seat.
UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $2200.
“OK. Here is the situation. We had this Jeep sold twice before but the buyers backed out. The reason is because we can’t find the title and the registration doesn’t match with the MVD records. The new owner would have to do an abandoned vehicle search and get a new title that way. We do not have the time to research all of this so we are willing to let it go at a cheaper price. This Jeeps blue book value is over $6000.
1946 Willy’s CJ2A Jeep. All original with added top. 6 volt system. Flathead 4-cylinder. RARE 3 speed on the column shifter. Original seat frames included. 16 in wheels. Been in the same family it’s entire life, 3rd owner in family. Spare tire. We started it a few days ago and drove it around but it does need a little TLC. More pictures available. Price is $2200.”

This includes a PTO Winch. It’s dusty, but this looks like a good restoration candidate.
“1952 Willys CJ-3A – bone stock and in great shape. I bought this to do a frame off restoration, since it is 100% original – still even has the foot rod starter. The L4 flathead engine runs, but smokes a bit.
Still the original 6V, has the PTO winch, Harrison heater, and has a solid body with with minimal rust. Had a hardtop on it, so the floors are very good. Clear title. Stored in my garage”

“1949 Willys Jeep. It’s all original, it has 3 speed transmission and is 4 wheel drive. Due to it’s age, it is being sold AS IS with no warranties. It also comes with a clean and clear title, and is currently tagged and inspected. It has a rear main seal leak that needs to be fixed, but it still runs good. We had a blast in it last summer, just riding the back roads and enjoying life.I’m going to miss it, but I have too many cars & horses, and something has to go! Give us a holler and you can check it out.”

“This is a very solid jeep rebuilt as a navy flight line jeep. While registered as a 1946 many components are CJ3A. Starts & runs good – upgraded to 8 Volt system; Good brakes; T-90 tranny is strong; New glass & upholstery. Making room for a new project. More photos upon request.”
At JpZombie.com, Casey has uploaded 20 images from the late 40s / early 50s. Several of the images have also been loaded at the earlycj5.com website and a thread has popped up around them. A video was also uploaded (see below) that shows early color footage of the Yakima Ridge Runners (from Yakima, Washington) playing in what appears to be the Little Naches River and shows them traveling over the Naches Trail (you can also see video excerpts from Exploration Northwest which discusses the trail).
Below is a small version of one of the pics at JpZombie. In this pic, you can see on the sign ‘Wally Klingele’, who was one of the founding members of the Ridge Runners. Some of the pics at JpZombie appear to be pics capturing the Life Magazine Folks who put together these classic videos (ridge runner video 1 & ridge runner video 2).

Doug suggested I do a search at Youtube on “Willys Jeep Tracks”. I found two interesting videos.
In this video, a CJ-2A is fitted with tracks, one track on each side.

Thanks to Dave (Hog) for pointing out this unusual item — Jeep Tea cups. First off, the price on these seems nuts –$9999 — seriously? Maybe I just don’t know the market for tea cups. Also, the seller claims these are WWII tea cups, but, based on the jeep, those are Korean War Cups at the earliest.

The 1/2 cab looks solid.
