Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. (12/16/09) “Vintage antique Jeep. Bought this project 5 years ago. The motor has been rebult top to bottom by Rodney’s Machine Shop- Jarretsville MD, new gas tank, new brakes, suspension totally redone including the four leaf springs-shocks etc. and complete exhaust system. Just put new battery and solenoid in it. Needs body work, new seats etc. Hood and rear Willys gate in great condition. Have spare steering column with a original Willys steering wheel in excellent condition that comes with it. Great project vechicle for the Jeep enthusiast or ????? Valid Maryland Title. I suspect the title says ’46 because it was a surplus sale? I’m unsure why the seller is using the term “kit”.
“WW2 Jeep Ford GPW “kit”: Build a Genuine BAND of BROTHERS GPW jeep. Clear Oregon Title list’s it as ’46 Ford GPW. Kit includes tub- fenders-2 hoods-windscreen and Willies MB frame. This is the real deal and while it shows age with various drilled holes, wrinkles/dents.. it’s real solid. Rare convertible DJ.
“Up for auction is one of the rarest of all Jeeps. The DJ-3A Dispatcher was made from 1955 to 1964. Willys marketed the Dispatcher as a “Sport” vehicle and an inexpensive commercial delivery car. They used existing tooling and in-stock CJ parts to keep the cost low. That meant that they were trying to market a car with technology fresh from 1940! Keep in mind this car was built just months before Ford introduced the Mustang. No wonder this is a rare Jeep!
The example being auctioned is a 1963. The paint is original and shows only a few scratches and a few discolored spots. There are two small rust-through spots on the rear of the body at the rear body mounting brackets. The upholstery is original and is in excellent condition. The odometer reads a very believable 27,990 miles. DJ-3As are two-wheel-drive with three speed transmissions and column shift. This car has a limited slip differential! Comfortable cruising speed is around 40 mph….”
The seller claims this is WWII paint. You be the judge. That issue aside, it looks clean and solid.
“Original flathead 4 cyl. enigine, has been rebuilt, Has Hard to find rear PTO and engine mounted governor. Has new exhaust, shocks,new lights and lenses. Has New Army paint and flat clear coat and stencil painted numbers and stars. Seat foam has been replaced and new seat covers installed. Has been converted to 12 volt for charging and better starting but uses original gauges. This Willys starts and runs great, idles smooth and very quiet. Has clear SD title. Tires are ok, but mismatched and brakes pull a little.. 4WD works good and transfer case and transmission shift fine. May be able to deliver for a fee.”
UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $6500.
There’s no reason not to think this CJ-5 has only 29,000 miles. It’s got a vintage top, looks solid, and even comes with an extension bed in the rear.

It runs. This looks more like a chariot than a jeep 🙂
“I am selling my Willys Jeep. I bought it as a rock crawling project, but I am not able to finish. It has the original F-Head engine, with oil bath air filter. It starts right up and runs great. It has a 3 speed transmission with a Warn overdrive. New parts that I installed include: coil, distributor, and plugs. I have other new parts which are included but haven’t installed: master brake cylinder, all new brake cylinders and all small parts to rebuild the brakes. Also, new choke line, plug wires, oil filter, and fan belt. I also am including a chain assisted clutch linkage from Advanced Adapters, as the old clutch linkage is worn out.
The brake lines and fuel tank need to be replaced. The grill and hood are Willys stamped and have minimal/no rust. Tires hold air and have good tread. Roll bar is also included.
This jeep would make a great parts vehicle or as a foundation for a rock crawler.

It runs, drives and maybe even plows. I’m wondering if that is a DJ body given what appears to be a lack of a tailgate.

(11/17/09) Here’s a CJ-3B that looks in good shape, though the exterior has been painted with a bed liner.
“For sale is an excellent condition 1953 Cj3b. I purchased the jeep in Kalispell, Montana in 2000. Since then, it has made several moves around the country and finally wound up here in Bend, Oregon. I kept the jeep in its original terrible condition for seven long years and would receive the half-hearted thumbs-up at stoplights. Now it turns heads everywhere it goes. The jeep has a bad history of turning a 10 minute trip to the store into a two hour discussion with an oldtimer who used to farm his property with this same model. Everywhere you drive, expect to stop and talk. We have even been pulled over by the state police, not because we were speeding (that’s impossible except for in school zones) but because he was curious to find out what was under the hood; having never seen the Willy’s high-hood before….”
