“The first pic with the hood open shows the two Dzus (brand name) (learn how to pronounce Dzus) fasteners which help hold the hood down when inserted into the brackets shown in the 2nd pic.  The brackets are just above the yellow ignition coil and next to the master cylinder.  I also use another fastener (for a total of 4 to hold the hood) on the back side of the flat fenders.  The last image shows another view of the ½” pipe as it is bolted to the top side of the flat fenders. ”

I don’t know whether these are made anymore (anyone know)?  What I do know is that this is the first set I’ve seen for sale in two years of watching craigslist.  In addition, I haven’t seen a design quite like that. Normally, the steel is taller and goes up farther on the body.

Someone’s got the wrong year on this CJ-3B.  Maybe it is really 1964?  It’s either got a fiberglass body or some work has been done on the steps.

This is a beautiful CJ-3A.

“This vehicle was purchased new by a California doctor who kept it on his ranch most of it’s life. I bought it in 2003. I believe the +/-56,000 is probably accurate.The only thing that is off of original is the seat belts and roll bar which I added. It has been repainted but is original color. The seats have been rebuilt and the top was replaced. Recently(early this year) I installed all new brake drums, shoes and cylinders, also new (less than 50 miles) Michelin tires.”

My Build — Playing With the Roll Cage Design

I thought I’d reassemble my mockup roll cage to see how everything is coming together.  After making a few small changes, I’ve decided the front hoop will need to go up about an 1″ or so and the back hoop will need to drop about 2″, which should provide a more balanced look to the cage and allow a top to fit more easily.

Attaching The Front of the Roll Cage

Last week, Siva asked about my strategy for attaching the roll cage to the front area of the jeep. So, I put my mockup cage back into the jeep to demonstrate this.  The two pics below show the PVC tube landing squarely on the 1/4″ thick plate of steel.  There will be four bolts that go through the plate connected to the cage to a plate underneath the body connected to the frame (see drawing at the bottom).  This sandwiches the body between the roll cage plate and the frame plate, keeping everything together.  There will also be one or two triangle plates from the tube to the plate (as demonstrated by the piece show in the pic).  This will help provide some additional lateral strength.
