May 1954 Kaiser Willys News Vol. 1 No. 4

• CATEGORIES: Advertising & Brochures, Features, Magazine • TAGS: , , This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

UPDATE: I obtained a copy of this Kaiser Willys News, Volume 1, Number 4, off of ebay. Previously, all I had was a low resolution copy. This issue includes stories and photos about the Yakima Ridge Runners (last page).

Page 1 covers sales contents. Page two includes a short article about how a jeep won a road race in Las Vegas, but a search of vintage newspapers did not yield any more information. Page three is unusual in its description of the efforts to encourage wives to support their husband’s sales efforts.

Page 4 and 5 covers sales tips. Page 6 has an interesting diagram of an automatic transmission tools board, with enough detail to recreate it for a museum.

Page 7 includes a story with some details that might help someone recreate the 1954 Cavalcade of jeeps. As mentioned before, page 8 covers the Yakima Ridge Runners, among other stories.

UPDATE: Originally posted Feb 1, 2018:

1951-07-motortrend-jeep-gymkhana-calvacade-pg1-1The May 1951 issue of Motor Trend captured the 3rd Annual DeAnza Trail Jeep Cavalcade. The author, Ernest Reshovsky, titled the article “Jeep Gymkhana”, possibly attempting to reference timed automobile or equestrian contents designed to test driving skill, though to my knowledge the Cavalcade was not a timed event.

1959 Jeep Cavalcade Article

When looking over the 1960 Jeep Cavalcade brochure, I noticed it was the 3rd annual event. However, the 1959 brochure doesn’t mention it being the 2nd annual event. A newspaper clipping from 1958 solved that question. It turns out there was a 1958 advance trail exploration in 1958 to prep for the 1959 event, though it seems to have been more of a low key event when compared to the 1959 and 1960 cavalcades. This short newspaper article in the June 1, 1958, issue of the Fort Collins Coloradoan explains it:

1953 Article on the Hemet-Borrego Jeep Cavalcade

• CATEGORIES: Features, Old Images, Old News Articles • TAGS: This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

This April 21, 1953, article in the News-Pilot out of San Pedro, California, gives some background on the Annual Jeep Cavalcade trip to Borrego, California. The group totaled 175 jeeps and 600 hundred people.

The article’s author makes a pretty blatant plug for the vehicle one of the reporters was driving, noting that the “powerful new Chrysler Sedan provided by Kroll Motors handled with ease and driving comfort that are characteristic of Chrysler engineer.” (insert eye-rolling emoji here) ….
