About eWillys
Welcome to eWillys.com, a website for vintage jeep enthusiasts. I update this website nearly every day with jeep deals, jeep history, interesting reader projects, jeep related info, and more.
These quick searches can help you find things on eBay. People list in the wrong categories all the time, so don't be surprised to see brochures in the parts area for example. This section used to be split into jeeps, parts and other categories, but recent changes to eBay will require this information to be recoded.
The links to posts below show jeeps grouped by models, condition, and other ways. Some of these jeeps are for sale and others have been sold. If you are unsure whether a vehicle is still for sale or not, email me at d [at] ewillys.com for more info.
Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. So, tread carefully when purchasing a "project". If you have any concerns about buying a vintage jeep, or run across a scam, feel free to contact me for help, comments or concerns .
(05/03/2017) I’m most interested in the type of hubs. I can’t tell what they are. This has no engine.

This has an overdrive and a set of hard-to-find Allstate hubs.
“A rare original 56 Willy’s jeep cj5 with 4 wheel drive with lockout hubs also has a shift for overdrive. The jeep runs great used it to go in parades with my grankids.”
This appears to have a set of the later Free-Lock hubs with tabs.
“Willys jeep for sale. Runs well needs some restoration work/TLC. Looking for offers trying to see what I can get for it. I also have extra rims that go with it.”
These appear to be Dualmatic hubs with the Free-Lock private label. They certainly are rare.
“This is a very rare set of Free-Lock locking hubs. Free-Lock was made in Denver Colorado in the 50’s. Dalamatic Hub company may have bought Free-Lock. Thes sure look just like the Selectro hubs you see today. They are 10 spline, and works with all Willy’s & CJ jeeps from 1941 to 1971. Hubs are in good working order. Thanks for looking!”
“For sale is a Jeep I shipped from Las Vegas. The Jeep is nearly rust free. It runs, drives, and stops. Lights work. This is fully functional and ready for fun. Clear title.
It was a part of the infamous Phil Maloof auto collection, owned by the tour guide with a mechanic on staff. The collection has been visited by Jay Leno and Pawn Stars. This Jeep sat next to Duisenbergs, Rolls Royces, Lincolns, and V-16 Cadillacs.
-New canvas top, seats
-New tires
-All new oil seals (tranny, tcase, axles) last week
It sat this winter – and could use some carb tuning. Paint job isn’t the greatest. Other than that, this is a very nice vehicle that you can enjoy during the summer. It’s nearly impossible to find an original condition Jeep in the midwest that hasn’t been patched up. The first areas to go are the toolboxes – and this one is beautiful.”
This jeep, which is a mix of parts, has a set of Free-Lock Hubs on it.
“I have a RARE Willy’s CJ2a with a MB converted front end with a 1963 1/2 Ford Falcon Sprint 260ci V8 solid lifter Commando motor and Rare Factory installed Manual Overdrive!! That’s right 4 sticks 3 speed manual, manual overdrive, 4wd in and out and 3 speed transfer case high, low and PTO. Runs like new fresh tune up has a entire new front to back 16 fuse wiring harness installed with all new 5 gauge cluster. Only had 6,600 original miles came originally from retired Colonel at Fort Hood Texas was his weekend driver. Has brand new Goodyear Wrangler Military issued 33 x 9 x 16 over $1,200 cost in 16×7 military wheels. Has rebuilt drivetrain about 10years ago. Has lockouts on it. Upgraded leaf springs with coil over shocks for original winch bumper.
It’s rough, but does have the data plate to prove it was a “D” model. This may have some Allstate hubs.
“I have a 1955 military Jeep missing engine. It has minimal rust , mainly in the lip of tool box under passenger seat, solid floors and frame, only 50 of this model was produced. It’s rare and in surprisingly good condition, make me a good offer. Bill of Sale”
Born in 1893, Louie H. Ponnequin, a veteran of WWI, was fifty-five years old when he filed a patent in January 1948 for what appears to be the Clary Hubs. At the time, he was living in Hawaii, so it’s possible that being around the military bases there he saw a need for a simple free-spinning jeep hub. Though Arthur Warn invented his standard spinning hub cap a year earlier in 1947, there’s no evidence that Warn ever patented his “summer hub”.
This set of used Kelly Hubs appears in good shape. They were manufactured at the Kelly plant in Charleston, West Virginia, probably around the late 1950s or early 1960s. A descendent of the Kelly founder who worked at the plant indicated they were also made there. I believe they were invented by D.L. Beck, who filed a patent very similar to these in 1957. Beck happens to be the same man who founded the D.L. Beck Manufacturing Company in Middleport, Ohio, which made Beck hard tops in the late 40s/early 50s, a company later bought by Hubert Kelly and rebranded Kelly Mfg. They are a 10-spline hub.
“Good Used Set of Kelly Mfg Self-Lock Hubs. Removed from 1948 Dana 25 front axle. Will fit Jeep Willys Spicer Dana Model 25 27 Front Axle with 10 spline ends. Cleaned to check for cracks and breaks. Both hubs work well. May want to disassemble and regrease”
These appear to be 19 spline Husky Hubs (I counted the splines). Anyone see a reason why these wouldn’t work on a 19 spline jeep axle/hub?
“THIS IS A NEW HUSKY MODEL NO. 002, LOCKING HUBS FOR THE WM 200 DODGE POWER WAGON. FREE SHIPPING INSIDE THE USA. IF YOU LIVE IN CALIFORNIA YOU MUST PAY SALES TAX”
“Warn vintage aftermarket hubcaps for Willy’s Jeep
Also comes with the box and the instructions
Hubcaps are in nicely used condition and would polish up nice
Box is filthy and damaged on one side
But still opens and latches well”
This is the earliest use of jeep hubs as winches that I can remember documenting. It was publishing in the July 1943 issue of Popular Mechanics. The McCain hub was a similar, much later idea.
