Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. Colin did some due diligence and determined that this is likely a former airport baggage conveyor DJ. Here’s a very similar conveyor DJ from the 3B page.
Here’s what Colin deduced: The mounts on the front frame rails are in a position where the front conveyor supports can be mounted.
The rear platform for the conveyor is attached to the rear corner of the tub on those DJ3As and on the sides of the CJ3B as well (see the CJ-3B page). It would preclude the rear taillights, and rear fuel filler that is standard on the DJ3A, but one photo of the DJ3A with the North Central Convair 500 shows the fuel fill tube low on the right rear corner, and the rear wheel opening is modified just like the one on 20796 (See the CJ-3B page for pics side and rearish.
Also, the right rear corner of the tub is modified to clear the conveyor.I suspect the large holes in the rear panels helped support the bracing for the rear platform and also carried the hydraulic lines and controls for on the ground operation. The Line lock was for the brakes and the chrome handle on the left side of the dash were no doubt for the governor. The emergency brake T- handle was moved to a location where the driver could set it, otherwise it would have been under the conveyor apparatus.

The seller neglects to mention the body is made up of a CJ-2A and CJ-5 (and is damaged).

The 4wheel drive works and it has been painted with historically accurate WWII symbols. It has been converted to a 12 volt system. I love this funky jeep. Looks to have started life as a CJ-5 or M-38A1. Then, someone with a welder and torch got a hold of it. Just bring it back to life and keep as is. It’s a great conversation piece of nothing else.
“I have for sale a jeep that I have used at my hunting lease. It is a tough vehicle that is entirely metal. It has both high and low 4 wheel drive and a hoist on the back. It has some slop in the transmission that can be fixed with adjustment of the yoke in the three speed on the floor. It has a Ford Falcon engine. It has been sitting in my barn but it was running when I drove there. Tires are good and the fuel tank is a new tank that I have in the rear cargo area. I replaced the carburetor a few years back and runs fine. Will make a great jeep for a hunting lease or just to drive around a ranch. There is no title and I don’t know what year model or make it is! I am told that this is a form military jeep but I don’t know what era it is from.”

I really had to stare at this one for a while. I *think* this is might be a 2A with some 3B and wagon parts. But, it also has full floaters in the rear. I like the “original” flathead engine that is actually an f-head.

This one has some interesting history.
“1943 Jeep with custom cab and 6′ plow. Starts and runs good. Needs brake job. No title, no plates. Cab and body parts were fabricated by German POWs in the Rhine Valley. This vehicle originally carried a generator during WWII that followed the General around – it wasn’t Ike.”

Maybe used as a push jeep for sprint/midget car racing at one time? That might explain the bumper. I can’t explain the hardtop. Note the radiator hood bump, too.
