Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. “1946 Willys CJ2A. Lovingly improved to stock. New fuel system (tank, pump, steel lines), new suspension system, new steering gear, new exhaust, new paint (period correct Harvest Tan), new period correct seats and upholstery. It has working turn signals and converted to 12 volt. Starts and runs well. It’s ready for those Fall runs to the ice cream shop or the baseball field. There is no better way to run around town. Clear title in hand.”
Looks solid. You can buy the M-38 for only $8500 by itself.
“I have a older restoration. 1950 M38 done 30 years ago when nos parts were easy, with summer top, grc 9 radio set, back seat ect. Its 100 % rust free and stright with no bondo, one of the best m38 I bought then. now the bad news, I used it 30 years ago to drive into my silver mine (worked great) and then parked it in the barn, were it has sat since. So the gas is ugly, batterys are shot, tires do hold air and look great with 100 % tread. (but they are still 30 years old) brakes dont work, the seals will need replacing. I now need the storage and the jeep has to go , price is 8500.00 there is also a M100 1/4 trailer for sell. The m100 trailer is real nice, right hitch, cover, used it with my m38 jeep, the trailer has not moved in 30 years, been stored inside the barn. I need the space. The good, body, paint, hitch,fenders ect , not so good, tire shop broke 3 lung nuts, studs years ago to fix a flat so the lugs need to be replaced, the floor is a little wavy (nothing bad but it is not 100% new, I used it to haul my supply in to the mine )1800.00 or if you buy the jeep and trailer 9800.00 Please no tire kickers, I only want monny, no trades, and I dont need any help to sell the jeep. In short if you dont have the cash dont call. ”

“1953 Willys M38A1. All machine work complete on the engine. Bored .60 over, crank turned 20/20. New water pump, thermostat housing, and gasket set. Radiator has been redone. All the parts are with the Jeep. I pulled this out of Atoka Oklahoma, it belonged to a Korean War Veteran. He had started the restoration by tearing down the engine and then lost his sight. No title, but I can acquire one through court order for 475.00 black tagged. Not running will need final assembly.”

“Owned for 27 years. Selling, as I just don’t spend the time on it that it deserves.
Starts, runs and stops, but the engine and drivetrain are old and tired. Brakes are new all around.
Slave cylinders, Master, pads and clips. Parking brake cabling is free and works. Wheel bearings are in good shape, and all 4 recently rebuilt and repacked (left rear replaced). Needs shocks replaced. Especially the back ones. Guy that had it before me, lifted it all around about 2 inches, with “not bad” work. But that means the shock throw is “not standard”.
Wiring is all new. Put in a fuse block as well. Winch is a 12,000lb mechanical from the Power Takeoff, and works like a champ.
4wd all works, locking hubs are smooth, kingpin bearings real nice, and the front knuckle seals newly replaced and serviced with the proper lube, so it doesn’t just ooze right out. Steering gearbox centers up pretty nicely, but it too is simply “old”.
Looks in good shape.
“This Jeep belonged to my father, who bought it new in 1951. I restored everything but the engine and transmission in 2005, and had the original engine rebuilt and transmission and transfer case serviced in 2012. This Jeep is all original with original engine and 6 volt system (turn signals have been added). Includes a Stow-Master tow bar, $500 new.”
