Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. Dennis shared these photos of his ex-wife’s grandfather, Tom Provateare. He’s pretty sure these were taken while Tom was stationed in Germany.
Paul forwarded these two photos of hardtops. Anyone know who manufactured these tops?
The first one is the same model of hardtop Paul’s dad had on his jeep. Paul notes, “This is an old metal hardtop which was used on the WW2 Jeeps. The windows in the doors are moved up and down by straps on the inside of the doors.”
This is another version of the same top. However, the doors on this top have been modified so the vertically sliding windows were replaced by fixed pieces of clear plexiglass. Rather a boxy design even compared to a Jeep.

Marc spotted this Navy Data plate that was on a CJ-3A.

“1950 M38 Jeep, nice running original L-134 flathead 4 cyl engine and 3 speed transmission, 12 volt electrical, upgraded front brakes, warn hubs, like new BFG M/T tires, 6 point roll cage, Best Top soft top with doors, heater, rear step bumper, tow bar & wiring, original and line lock parking brakes. Original CA vehicle. Clean title.”

This jeep will be part of an estate auction. Has the body been sprayed with a bed liner? Kind of looks that way.

The large dashplate is unusual. Looks like it is etched with word(s).
