1959 CJ-3B Project Augusta, WV **SOLD**

• CATEGORIES: CJ-3B This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

UPDATE: **SOLD* Was $950.

(11/23/2014) Includes a PTO and an aluminum top.

“I was rebuilding this and got a code violation in Arlington and had to stop. The body is rusted out but this is a really solid foundation for building a nice classic rig. Set up with Rancho springs and shackles, Saginaw steering, T98 four speed transmission with granny low, and bellhousing adapter/motor mounts for small block Chevy. I let my grandson pretend-drive and now the tranny won’t go into reverse, first, or second, so there is little value there. Has plastic gas tank and original gauges. Roll bar is fine. Front axle ring/pinion are broken but it rolls with hubs unlocked and driveshaft off, but needs rebuilding or replacing with a Dana 30. Has nice vintage aluminum wheels.

The real values here include:
– Rear axle is a shortened Ford 9 inch with Detroit Locker, Moser axles, and 11 inch drums. 3.73 ratio
– Ramsay PTO winch running off of Dana 18 transfer case
– Clean title with data plates on dash

Can be flat towed with included tow bar that I put on to get it out of Arlington.

I also have all other parts for a complete rebuild that I would include for the right price. Includes brand new body plus vintage body parts with Willys script; rebuilt Chevy 350 4-bolt main, aluminum heads, super torque cam; new Centerforce clutch; and aluminum top. ”

Safari Kar International’s DJ-5 Mods

• CATEGORIES: DJ-5 & DJ-6 • TAGS: , This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

I found a DJ-5 for sale (see below) that had a Safari-Kar data plate. I did some research to learn more about these vehicles.

Safari-Kar International was a company from Woodruff Avenue in San Bernardino, California, that purchased, restored, and resold postal jeeps. It was launched in 1993. Don’t confuse it with a weird car by the same name called the SafariKar.

As best as I can learn, the company sold remanufactured DJs and two different kits. One to swap the steering and chop and modify the back half and another for soft top kits. At their height they remanufactured around 30 jeeps a month. They also signed up twelve independent manufactures.

By 1995 the company ran into a legal problem. They were reselling the vehicles with a new odometer as a modern vehicle. But, by doing so the law dictated the ‘kars’ had to meet modern safety regulations. (you can read an entire article about the company in a 1995 article from Automotive news (also archived at the bottom of this page).

Four Wheeler Magazine may have reported on this modification in a 1993-1994 article, but I have yet to confirm that. They did reference a DJ in a later Cheap Jeep article, but with no mention of a soft top.

Here are a few links:

UPDATE: Status Unknown. Was $9500.

(10/10/2014) It doesn’t have the column shift, but does have other early elements. It is #11653.

“Ive got to sell my beautiful 1945 Willys CJ2A to make room for my side by side. Original 4 cal 6V civilian model 1st year they were built. It has been in car shows and paradise and also around the hills around Mesquite. Green with yellow wheels was the original color, pretty wild for 1945. It will take you about anywhere you want to go and always puts a smile on everybody’s face. A lot of fun and in great shape”

1942 GPW Boulder, CO **SOLD**

• CATEGORIES: GPW (Ford MB) • TAGS: , This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

UPDATE:**SOLD** Was $24,000

Has matching numbers.

“One is a 1942 WW2 Jeep. It is Model GPW built by Ford and identical in every way to the Willys Model MB. Both Ford and Willys shared the WW2 production of 500,000 Jeeps almost equally. Ford had a policy of identifying virtually all of their parts including Bolts with the Ford script “F”. Because of this, a complete and original GPW will usually sell for a higher price than the comparable Willys. My GPW is serial number 10,100. Simply stated this is a very early WW2 Jeep and the 10,100th Jeep produced of a total Ford production of approximately 250,000 Jeeps. It was completed on March 25, 1942. The date is engraved on the original Ford data plate on the Glove box door.
The body, floors and all metal are in excellent condition. There is no rust. The Jeep has been garaged since I’ve owned it. Have Top/bows.
The engine is original and is engraved GPW 10,100 on the block. The Frame is also engraved GPW 10,100.
The Jeep cranks and starts like it should. It is a good driver as well.
The Jeep has a gun mount for a 30 cal Browning MG. I have the Browning MG which is made from a Browning parts kit. It is correct in appearance, size and weight. The guts of the MG have been modified so the MG will not fire. The MG is not a Live gun. It is for display.”
