1962 FC-170 Isuzu Chassis Cincinnati, OH **SOLD**

• CATEGORIES: FC150-FC170-M677 This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $4500.

Is this rig formerly this rig? The one at the other link is on a 1990 Isuzu chassis with a tilt cab, while the one below is on a 2000 Isuzu chassis and doesn’t appear to tilt.

“This is a project I’ve been kicking around on selling. I’ve just lost interest in it. It’s a 1962 Jeep fc170 cab i set on a 2000 Isuzu diesel box truck. It’s more than half way complete and I’m just tired of looking at it sit around. I have countless hours in this Jeep. The rear axel is just a floating axel 4 linked to trail behind, 5th wheel off of a Peterbilt, custom diamond stacks. I could tell you anything you wanted to know about it. It has no title but it’s not a hard process to do a builders title with a bill of sale 4500 firm and no I will not trade for anything cash only.”

“Hello, I have a 1962 Willy’s CJ6 for sale. This is the long wheelbase jeep of its time. Unlike the CJ5, the tub is much wider and longer on the CJ6. It has the original hurricane L134 engine and stock 3 speed transmission with 4×4 and aftermarket locking hubs. I have owned it about 5 years and it has come a long way since I purchased it. It has new 31x15x12.5 Dick Cepek Extreme country, 2.5 inch wheel spacers, steering stabilizer, re- upholstered seats and added back seat, rebuilt steering column, new clutch, new starter, new alternator, fresh battery, updated fuse panels to bladed fuse instead of old glass fuse, rebuilt carburetor, new seatbelts, new gas tank, KC dual lights, tow bar. It has been registered and street legal for 5 years now with clean title. It used to be classic plates but is regular plates now. I am asking $8,000 obo.”

“Mitsubishi J3 Diesel RHD Military Jeep.

License built by Mitsubishi. 4 Cylinder diesel from the factory. Built for the Japanese army (and others) from the 1950’s until the late 1990’s.

Restoration project. Has sat for a number of years. Complete and original. Rust in the usual Jeep places (footwell). Frame is straight and solid. Motor currently does not run but turns over with compression…. Being a diesel I am sure it would run if you hooked it up to a fuel tank, not had time to mess with it. Parts are available from a number of suppliers. Even has the original Japanese NDTs still on it……. Very cool and unique Jeep.”

Kjolseth and Kohlschutter’s 1957 Trip to South American

• CATEGORIES: Features, Old Images, Old News Articles • TAGS: This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

On September 11, 1956, President Dwight D. Eisenhower introduced the People-to-People Program, “to enhance international understanding and friendship through educational, cultural and humanitarian activities involving the exchange of ideas and experiences directly among peoples of different countries and diverse cultures.”

Two students out of Colorado University, Rolf Kjolseth, of Boulder, Colorado, and Andreas Kohlschutter, of Berne, Switzerland, decided to put Eisenhower’s idea into action by driving a jeep from the United States to Rio De Janeiro, where they planned to sell the jeep and return to the United State by ship. Along the way, they hoped to meet people from all walks of life. They called their jeep “Columbus II”.

The trip was sponsored by the U.S. Information Agency and the Pan American Union. The two young men were supposed to write about their trip and send their stories to several newspapers, but I can’t find any articles with their by-lines. They even had their photo take with  then Vice President Richard Nixon on the steps of the U.S. Capitol, but I haven’t located a copy of that yet.

According to multiple reports, the intrepid explorers drove their early CJ-5 south from Laredo, Texas, through Mexico, into Central America and, probably via boat, made it to South America. The photos below show the pair in Colombia.

I could not locate any information following their stop in Colombia.

At the very least, Rolf made it back to Colorado, becoming an associate professor at the University of Colorado from 1971-2011. I don’t know if Rolf is alive or not, but he does have an email address associated with UC. Whether he monitors it or not, I couldn’t say, but I sent him an email. Hopefully someone will respond.
